What's the point of The Censor in the internet age ?.

    I remember when The Life of Brian or From Dusk 'til Dawn were banned in Ireland.

    Now if I want to settle in for the evening & watch A Serbian Film followed by 2 hours of fatal accidents caught on camera there's nothing stopping me.
    Not saying I would just that it's there on tap should I want to.

    Besides classifying TV, so kids don't hear a swear word before the watershed, what's the point of the censor ?.

    Still to censor TV/movies I assume.
    The parents will have to censor the child's internet usage.

    or more accurately

    15= tits
    18= tits and pubes.

    As a guide for what to expect from a movie?

    Sure with t'internet you can search for what you want to your hearts content, but what if you fancy going to see a movie but you don't fancy something too violent/sexy/whatever. Certs are a quick glance way of knowing what to expect really.

    Exactly. It's a mark of assurance.

    It's like those "warnings" on the backs of DVD cases that tell you "may contain strong nudity" or "extreme violence throughout". It's good to know the movie you're about to buy/rent has these elements in them before handing over your money.

    But they'll undoubtedly blame the government if little Timmy saw a vagina while his mom was off shagging the gardener

    Ireland does not have a censor - the role is Classifier.

    It was banned. Not any more.

    Last non pornographic film banned here was Boy Eats Girl because of a suicide scene. The banning was overturned and the film got a 15A cert. Kind of silly tbh.

    Actually the original version of I Spit On Your Grave was banned again recently too.

    if a film gets banned you know it's worth watching.

    When it comes to sex/violence/drugs, that is one very small part of the classifier/regulator/censor job. The point of regulating or censoring the internet is one, for legal reasons (I don't like the idea of kiddie porn, do you?), and two, standards (the W3C).

    Whats the W3C?

    Not really, Hostel was pretty crap. But I probably wouldn't have even bothered had I not heard so much uproar about it.

    Hostel was never banned.

    If you think banned films are worth a watch look up some of the remaining video nasties that are still banned? 99% of them are dire.

    They'll use kiddy porn as a reason to start censoring other things like politics they don't like, guaranteed.

    I am pretty sure that is probably what those man-boy love groups like Nambla say as an excuse to their actions.
