Opinions on Tights- For or Against!

I've just started running races regularly and usually wear my tights both for the races and for training just because I feel comfortable running in them. I've got the Mallow 10miler on Sunday and am debating whether to wear them or not. What are peoples opinions on wearing them? I always feel a bit self conscious in them before the race as most people wear shorts. Are they really only for colder weather or can they be worn all year round?

    Cheers.
    ;)

Suit yourself, if you're happy running in them then do it!

Wear what you're comfortable in - if that's your tights, go for it. There are always a few at every race who do wear tights, even during the summer.

    Dude or dudette?

Dude: You've missed that boat. Tights can no longer be worn after the 24th February, until cold season begins again (12th November).
Dudette: You still have another two weeks where the wearing of tights is considered acceptable, but the cut-off is the 8th April, at 6:47pm (sun-down).

The only rare exception is if the road temperature drops below -2'C, with a 7m/s wind (with a wind-chill of -8'C). Sorry the news couldn't be more positive. Just get in there with the tights earlier next year.

I'd second that, wear whatever you want (within reason of course :) )

Etiquette faux-pas Krusty. If running south of the Mason-Dixon line, white tights can be worn between Easter and Labor Day.

Ireland is, in its entirety, north of the Mason-Dixon line, so unless the OP is considering a long distance journey for his/her next race:
Neither the black tight of running, nor the the white tight of yogging shall be worn until the harshest depths of winter dost return (after Autumn harvest, but before winter solstice).

I suppose this means I shouldn't be wearing them around the office then.

I think i'll stick with them for the 10m race on sunday and try going without for a few shorter races coming up and see how I get on.

Try the alternative look; under shorts + compression socks. As good as tights and the bonus is, you'll look like a triathlete...:)

Whatever you feel comfortable in as has been said. Had to slip on a pair today, just above freezing in central Illinois. I thought winter was over. :/

I'd agree to go with what's comfortable. I wear tights for training/racing unless it's above 20C! Abandoned them one time for a race and felt self-conscious NOT wearing them as felt naked from the waist down (I wasn't BTW :D)
