    Hi,

Need a hand setting up my Speedplay Zero pedals.

Left pedal is fine when clicking out but with the right I nearly have to dislocate my knee to release it. The float is set to the eay I want it. Is there a way to loosen the release on them? They are only about a month old.

    Cheers

Have you lubed the cleats properly?

Also, the screws should not be over overtightened. I think the instructions say something like a quarter turn past loosey-goosey. You should feel them sort of click as you turn.

Check for dirt in the cleat too. I had the same problem at the Paddy's day race, had to take my foot out of the shoe and then wrench the shoe off the pedal. Was fine up to that, i think it was just that i walked across the mucky ground outside the club house.

A quirk of my shoes was that the head of one of the 3 bolts holding the intermediate/black adapter to the shoe was catching a little on my pedal. This made it harder to engage the cleat on the pedal and made releasing it a little trickier too. I swapped those 3 bolts for the ones with a slightly thinner head but still had to file down a small bit of one head to stop it protruding a little from the adapter.

To do all of that I ended up removing the outer/metal cleat more than once so the threadlock on the four small screws holding it on wore off. To compensate for this I had to tighten the four screws just a little bit more than first time round to prevent them from working loose. It takes very little to make them too tight though and that led to even greater difficulties in engaging and releasing. Backing the screws off a little was enough to significantly alleviate the problem but not entirely eliminate it so while they are now mostly fine I still sometimes have a little trouble clicking in (but releasing is fine). I've had to resign myself to the fact that my particular shoes seem to not be the best match for Speedplay pedals.

Oh, and Speedplay recommend that you lube the metal contact part of the pedals too, in addition to the cleats. If nothing else it helps make the process of trying to clip in more "interesting", a bit like trying to balance on a wet bar of soap when you get your foot positioning wrong!

    Well I got it sorted.

Took off the outer metal plate and took out the half ring (cleat) on the inside. Took that off, cleaned it off and then put greased it.

    Working perfectly now.
