Registering new business

    Hi

I am thinking about starting a new online business. I jumped the gun a bit and purchased the .ie domain name I wanted. They now want proof that I am a sole trader to complete registration.

I am still in full time employment and the new business will be in competition with my current employer. Well not exactly, I have seen an area they are not actively selling and feel I can do a great job. I do not want to set up as a sole trader for a few months yet, once I have all my research and my website ready.

What I would like to know is that if I register my Company Name will my employer find out?
Can I register a company name before I become self employed?

No your employer won't find out.

Yes you can register the company name before you become self employed.

I did and still do run my own businesses whilst still employed as a PAYE worker also.

Best of luck with it. Let us know what it is when you can and we will try and help promote it via Facebook etc!

    Hi

If you are just doing this to register a domain then all you need to do is register a business name with the CRO. Just the receipt is sufficient to demonstrate a business which is connected to Ireland and eligible for a .ie address.

    Hope this helps

IEDR will accept a pdf receipt from CRO, however CRO have stopped issuing these, so you may need to wait until the business name registration process has completed, this generally takes 3-4 weeks and your domain name application will be reserved for 28 days, so if you do not have the RBN in this time you should contact the registrar and ask them to continue to reserve the domain name, alternative methods of securing a .ie domain name for a business are a signed letter explaining the requirement for the domain together with a letter from an accountant, bank manager or solicitor confirming that you are operating as a business in Ireland.

On a personal note, I know .ie has its advantages but you could easily just get a .com with no issues what so ever. I use Godaddy for hosting, parking everything really.. and no mention of business .. easiest way to go.. unless you really wanted a .ie domain.

    Good luck anyways :)

I would agree with Stephen, a .com is easier & cheaper if you don't need a .ie
