First review of this I've seen and trust me, I've been looking for a while!
I love turn based strategy and was interested in this when was announced but....well, I was a bit sceptical of it being any good seeing as most of the coverage was all Pilotwings this and SF4 that.

However, it seems like my pre-order gamble might pay off.
This is one of the games in the bundles bracket as well from what I understand, get it for a tenner when you buy the system etc.

I'll post my own impressions after I get it on lauch day.

Made by the creator of the greatest ever game*, Julian Gollop. Hopefully it will be good enough to persuade people to buy it and encourage more to be made!!!

Looking forward to your opinion smokingman, with my fingers crossed. Hopefully well worth a tenner

It was nearly Rebelstar 2! Showing my age, X-Com was also excellent.

Actually, thinking about it, if Shadow Wars isn't any good, don't tell me, I couldn't take the disappointment

Makes me wish I had the money to afford a 3DS. I was only recently introduced to the genius of Chaos, rebelstar and Laser Squad and they hold up brilliantly as some fo the greatest multiplayer games ever.

All great games indeed and I'd be showing my age if I said when I played them.

Hope you can get one soon though Retro, can't give you a lift into town this time for a Ninty launch as I've moved away from Laytown since the Wii launch :)

IGN UK said it was a great game.

The hmv deal I'm going for has 3 games and an accessory pack for 330. My brother is also getting that and while sf4 is the only common game we're getting, we'll be drinking friday night away with pes, pilotwings, ridge racer and ghost recon as well. I'll post reviews up on Sunday but it should be a crackin night. I'll also be conducting experiments into how drunk you can get before the 3D makes me throw up ;-)

I've also been looking for a review of this game for ages. Seems the only bad thing that can be said about it is that there is no online multiplayer (could also say it's not advance wars or fire emblem also).

Will be picking this up tomorrow morning along with SSFIV3d. Gamestop in Stephen's Green opens at 8am.

I'll need a pity. Still remember that Wii launch, that was great craic :) Nice selection of music for the car as well!

Well Apple fanboys are going to be queuing on the other side of the mall to get their iPad2, not to mention the fps fanboys who will be waiting in line for Crysis2.
All in all the 25th of March seems to be fanboy country casual gamers and plastic fans bearer!

I've been able to play it for the best part of a week and I would easily have it now as my pick of the launch titles.

Similar to the advance wars series and in terms or value and playtime, streets ahead of the rest. Perhaps Street Fighter is up there but I've not been impressed with the other games yet.

I picked up SSFIV3D and Ghost Recon. SSFIV3D has barely been in my 3Ds at all, only to go online.

Ghost Recon is great. I'm still only 4 hours in but I'm hooked.

Got Ghost Reacon with the Bundle HMV are offering (Chose it over Rayman and Rabbids  ) Couldnt afford to pick up Street Fighter or one of the new Pokemon games separately :(
Honestly was'nt expecting much from it, but, I can't stop playing it. Really great turn-based RPG, remind's me of Advanced Wars in a lot of ways. But what it lacks in the crazy Anime characters of AW it makes up for in dynamic environments - use of buildings/walls for cover of your units and height for more effective attacks/defence. Only around 10 missions in with 4% of the game complete according to loading screens so I expect to be glued too it for the next few days anyway. Great game. Only disappointment I felt is its offering in 3D, sure the environments look a bit more realistic, the Canyons look great in the early levels, but its drain on the battery is'nt worth the offering, I keep it switched off for it. Hoping SSFIV:3D and the like's 3D effects will be more impressive (I didnt get to play any other games yet :( )

Wait for the later levels when the opening cinematic goes a bit 3-d mad. There's one that has a first person perspective from a truck travelling through a town and then it pans out and you realise that was all in realtime. Very cool.

There's another one that has two jets overflying a level that's also pretty good.

I too cannot get to play any of the other games I got on launch day - I've played a bit of SF4 online and about four games of PES but this thing is stuck in my system and it doesn't come out much at all. Really impressed with the gameplay and especially the replayability. The two player zombie mission is hilarious!

It'd be cool if they had a "buddy system", whereby if two characters spend quite a while together in adjacent tiles they gain special attributes and have character specific conversations that give you some back story. It worked brill in a GBA RPG I played donkeys ago whose name I can't quite remember...

Noticed a quirke in the enemy tactics:
I have just upgraded Mint to allow him use a remote tank. All enemies in range will attack the remote tank ignoring all of your other characters.

I must say, I really enjoy this game - while I haven't given it the time it deserves (damn Pokemon and Final Fantasy... :o ), it's probably going to be the only 3DS title (so far) that I'll be playing for some time to come. Just need to get past Mission 2-2 (I screwed up and managed to get the Kazakh soldier killed :( )

I was half-expecting it to be extremely slow-paced, considering the type of game it is, but have been suprised (and pleased) that it moves along pretty swiftly and no waiting around for enemy turns or any crap like that.

Wait 'til you get the upgrade to that tank, they'll need to take it out first! :)

I was looking at picking this up but is it anything like starcraft or age of emps ?

Haven't played starcraft but kinda like a smaller-map, only-fighting version of age of empires crossed with an old favourite of mine on the SNES, Metal Marines.

It's turn based so think advance wars, X-com, shining force, etc.

    Got this game today.
    Seems good so far.

The depth is really nice for some reason, though it adds nothing to the game so far, just looks nice.

    And the cutscenes are awesome.
    Pre-rendered though(slider doesn't effect them).

Finished the campaign on elite. Really enjoyed it. Little replay value but then I knew that before I bought it. Worth a try if you've not picked it up yet.

There is a dangerous bug on one of the later levels:
On the megadrone level, each time you open a door a new group of enemies appears. I noticed that when exiting the upper-left control room, if your character happens to stop on one of the squares just below the door (where the character has to stand to open the door originally) a new group of enemies will appear in the control room. This hit me twice, both times it was triggered by Banshee. Called the bug dangerous as it caused me to lose the first time out, the second time I barely scraped through the level.
