Hi-I've got a very smoky 4230 that's drinking oil and slightly underpowered, not to mention overheating under load.
I'm planning to do the cylinder liners/rings/pistons for a start, but I'm not sure whether this is a wet or dry job.
Has anybody got any info on this?
    Kind regards
    JohnC

Did ours at 5000 hours, dnt realy know whats involved. When we had it split we re did the gear linkages aswel, (does your H-L-R lever ever stick?) Think it cost between 1.5-2k though it's 2 years ago now and can't fully remember.

The plan is to do the job myself, yes-save the labour costs.
Vapormatic kits are available from the uk for around 100 pounds a cylinder, plus gaskets for the sump and head.
Still need to find out of the liners are wet or dry though, if dry then they have to be pressed in by a specialist.
Didn't know this about the injector pump, my tractor is also a difficult starter-I know that a common fault with these is a poor starter and I replaced mine a while back, which improved things a bit.

Forgot to say that the linkages on mine stuck too, but I repaired them last year.
On the downside()I've been told that the torque convertor/hare tortoise thingy packs it in after around 5000 hours.
    Something to look forward to.

    Hi,

I'm currently doing an engine rebuild on a 674, I think the engine would be similar.

I have a thread going on at F4F about it.

    Hope that helps!
