    Hello.

My neighbour parks one of his cars right behind the other - sometimes hard to see. Anyway I hit the one behind reversing out the other morning and dented the front side panel.

Called in said sorry, said I'll pay, didn't think about insuarnce at the time. I suppose I didn't thinks it'd be that much.

It's €200, Can I claim for this , and if I did would I lose my no claims bonus ?? Would my premium go up???

    Cheers

    Yes, yes, and yes.

If I was in that position I'd just pay it.

Could get a second opinion if you reckon €200 is a bit steep, but doesn't take long to come up to that kinda bill if filler required.

Check your insurance, most have some kind of excess, so the first few hundred on any claim is yours to pay anyway.

    As above, all yes.

For the sake of 200 euro, it's probably not worth losing your NCB or having a claim to your name.
Make sure to find out what your excess is as well. If your excess is 150 euro... you'll only be saving 50 euro by going through your insurance company, despite the fact you stand to lose your NCB (provided you don't have protection).

If you do have NCB protection, you're stuck with that insurance company for the following year as a result of them protecting your NCB.

Normally, you have an excess on your insurance policy, meaning that you have to pay the first few hundred of a claim anyway, so don't even tell the insurance company, just pay the neighbour. If you don't have bonus protection, it will affect your no claims bonus.

    Yes, yes, and yes.

That's not definite at all. A €200 settlement with no personal injury is unlikely to affect your premium. It might make it a little harder to move companies.

That said, there's no way I'd involve my insurance company for the sake of €200

I would just pay the 200 euro for the repair ,sounds about right as regards price, I'm a panel beater by trade and just to give you a guide on price here's how alot of us price that sort damage up North.....Dublin's probably a bit dearer but we allow around 100 euro per panel i.e wing / door etc. depending on the repair but allow 100 euro.
If it's in metallic paint and (some solid colours) then we have to paint (blow in) the panel next to the damaged one for the paint match so that's another 100 euro....... so there ya go mate....200 notes please & thank you!!

The excess on your policy which you would have to pay yourself on any claim you make, will probably be more than €200. I'd pay for it out of my own pocket, take it a cheap let off and move on.

    Cheers lads,

I thought it was probably better to keep insurance co.s out of it but didn't want to hear afterwards that I could have claimed with no effect.

I just won't look at the bank balance for a week or two. Skint and skinter sure there no difference really!

You can claim with no affect, you just need to repay all the money paid out by the insurance company.

TBH it's not worth it for €200, too much hassle at renewal time for such a relatively small payout.

Definately wouldn't go near my insurance for this. You made a boo boo, fork out - it'll only cost you more in the long run if you're not lucky. (FWIW, I know my own excess is €250 - add that topossibly losing NCB? Madness to consider it at all)

Plus having a claim will affect your insurance quotes for the next five years.
