Swing Changes

Went to my first golf lesson ever and the instructor pointed out a major flaw in my backswing. He gave me a drill to correct it but after 15 odd years of doing the wrong thing its going to be a nightmare to try and change. I have corrected my grip a couple of times and found that to be tough but got there in the end. Anyone any expierence in making a change to your backswing and how long it will take before it feels right? Is it just about going to the range and practising over and over?

Did this last year, felt all wrong at the start but came around after a while, I have to say he did give me a grip also which I have slightly changed for more comfort.

I've gone for about four lessons at this stage since late Jan/early Feb. I'm changing quite a bit, with minor tweaks rather than wholesale changes. But it's taken a good 6 weeks of practice before it's now finally starting to click. If you stick with it, and hit the range as much as possible, you'll start noticing the benefits soon. :)

Around this time last year I was at my wits end with my golf game. I was constantly fighting a major hook and it was driving me bananas... Long story short, I went for a lesson and the pro pointed out that my right hand was way too strong, causing the clubface to close at impact. He changed my grip from interlocking to overlapping, which had the result of weakening my right hand.. It felt completely alien at first and I really struggled for a few weeks. After about 3 full rounds with the new grip it bedded in properly and I have been enjoying my golf immensely since. The dirty hook is gone and my handicap has gone from 18 to 15.3 (I actually had my best round ever at the weekend, going around in 10 over par)

My advice is to listen to your pro, practice like f*ck & stick with the changes, it will bear fruit in the long run!!
