Do you have a phobia?

Some people fear fire (Pyrophobia), And others fear gay men (Homophobia)... Not to be mistaken for Hobophobia which is a fear of bums and beggars ha ha (honestly!)

My fear is the fear of water, (Hydrophobia, which can also be a fear of rabies according to the list below????). Drowning is my biggest fear because I can't swim. We moved house when I was in primary school just as I was learning to swim. We used to go down to the pool for lessons every Friday during school-time and I had just gotten to the stage of kicking my legs and holding the bar. I never learned how to let go AND stay afloat.

The new school I moved to had already finished their lessons and went swimming every Friday too but AFTER school and it wasn't compulsory, So I never learned how to swim because I refused to sacrifice any time from my weekend... The lads tried to teach me one summer (threw me into a river!) but that went terribly wrong and I nearly drowned two of them along with myself. So that's my story on why I'm afraid of water...

If you are afraid of something and don't know what the name of it is, check through this A-Z list of phobia's below. Even if you have no fears at all give it a look through and quote whichever one you find the funniest... you're guaranteed a good laugh off some of them:

    http://phobialist.com/index.html

So, do you have you a phobia? And is there a reason?

Esculators. Well more specifically, bening blocked and not able to get off an esculator at the top or bottom. Terrifies me.

I googled it and someone suggests "Escalaphobia" but surely someone else has coming up with a posher more latin sounding name. I will go look up what the Roman name for esculators was.

I just presumed that was a joke about being afraid of shadows until Man.UnitedLad said he googled it (it's on the list on the op) ... so it's a fear of vomiting ? That's mad. Must be a bitch...

Nah I'm not that witty! :p

It is a bitch, I'm afraid of doing something that makes me nervous because the nerves could bring on nausea and at that point I'm in a panic that I'm going to be sick - I have to stand outside and breathe deep. I'd say it possibly came about because I managed to go from age 9 until 20 without throwing up even once, when it finally did happen I was terrified of it. As I said above, I rarely drink as I associate it with being sick.

People suffering from the fear of fire show panic signs even at the sight of fire or intense red heat. Candles, open fires, heaters etc...

    Ophidiophobia or Snakeophobia

Massively. I constantly have this horrible image in my head of snakes slithering around me. Seeing one on the TV has me close to panic attacks! I can't touch the floor, can't close my eye, completely freak out. I've punched people in reaction to seeing images of snakes before. In fact even talking about them gives me the above sensation. I just freak.

I'm thinking it has something to do with growing up in Botswana and finding snake skins in my back garden and refusing to outside at night ever since. Apparently one of my friends remembers me as a kid in floods of tears when a snake was found at school once.

All my friends know about this now to the point that they move away from me before even mentioning the creatures!

That's crazy Karsini, I'd hate that... I don't mind throwing up, I always stick my fingers back my throat when I've a sick stomach... Get it over with, ya know.

But like, it'd be better to have a fear of it than not have a fear of it, wouldn't it? (That sentence made the word "it" too many times).

yeah maybe a bit of that too - better check the difference; may be that

Bipolar is another one a lot of these celebs tend to have been diagnosed with. i can understand Sutherland's social phobia i think, you get yerself in a bit of a dilemma in finding fame imagine everyone recognizing you, n you not them its a bit odd like that
