Lads what's the deal with ordering a boards.ie jersey? I saw a historic thread where someone organised the order. Is it just a case of someone organizing an order of 10+ with there being a set design?

I was afraid of that! I've no problem organizing this but i'm limiting it to ten. What's the deal with money/ordering? Do i just get the names and order together and get the money posted to me?

By the way, it would be next week before I get cracking on this.

This thread may be of interest to you

Last guy who organised an order. He had a google docs spread sheet where people could put in their orders.

Just another q, are we ordering a full kit?

That is up to you and depends on level of interest. Assume an order of just jerseys would be easiest as thats what most people want. If there is demand for other bits and bobs its just a matter of filling the quota I suppose.

Cheers Diego. Stick me down for a small short sleeve jersey.

What colour kit will you be ordering? The new (pink/red) or the old (orange) kit?

Stick me down for a full zip shortsleeve in medium if you're ordering the new design. Would be keen on a buff too if there's demand. :) Fair play to ya!!

If you're ordering the old style kit I'd be interested in getting a jersey.

when your ordering you have to order the same styles of jersey in batches of 10 and you cant just order 10 jerseys with different sleeves and zips or they,ll charge you a fortune. Its the same if you order less then 10 theres additional charges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Donie75

Put me down for a XXXL SS Jersey 1/4 zip if you're ordering.

    Thanks!

If it looks like its going to be a big order, I'd sort out an ordering system like SnollUps as if you start taking it down from threads and it turns into a big order, mistakes happen fast.

That's probably taking the piss a little bit. Even for proper team jerseys, only the sponsored riders get free kit, everyone else has to pay for it :)

And they did donate a chunk of cash for the initial order (IIRC) to get the ball rolling.

Did they? i was wondering what everyone was on about. I never got any cash of them for the first new order

Cullen Bookkeeping services sponsored the original jerseys though.

Yeah, it was just for the old one:

Did the new jersey design cost €230 before they even made it?

    Hi Diego,

I've just requested a jersey and gilet from CramCycle so I'd now only be interested in a medium pair of bib shorts if you can get 10 orders for them together.

    Cheers.

Nope, Daragh_ designed it and we bargained a free make up of the design from carvalho, recession = negotiation heaven

I knew boards admin covered the design cost before, I was wondering about the daft comment.

So far I'd say we have easily paid Carvalho 15grand over the past few years.

Indeed. However, daft are, shall we say more of a commercial concern than boards was at the time.

So why pay to advertise for them?

Is Boards.ie cycling kit Euro BTW?

Also, an we please not call it a daft comment :-)

Because we want a jersey/kit and we would like it to have Boards.ie on it so that we can spot each other out and about. The designs of the 2 kits have been done by members on here, and the whole idea of getting boards kit came from this forum. At no point did boards come to us and say "hey, we designed some great kit, want to use it?".

If anything the argument could be "Why don't we have to pay boards a licencing fee to use their logo?"

And no, it is not very Euro, but the addition of pink on the second design was a step in the right direction!

I have to admit I like the jersey and what it represents so am happy to pay for it myself, that said I've often wondered if it was worth approaching daft/boards to see if they would part fund a buy since they get advertising out of it.

Given how many jerseys you see which are nothing but sponsors its nice to have one like the boards with just one (or two) logos on it and adds to the appeal.

It's not something that would change my decision to buy one, but maybe I'd buy more if the price was a little less for each ;)

You just have to look at the "boards jersey spotted" thread to see how popular it has become and how much advertising it could generate.

They have supplied funds in the past to make it a little cheaper for us to buy stuff, so anything on top of that is a bonus I guess.

Put it this way, do you think Astana/RadioShack/<insert team here> should pay you to wear their jersey? No, you do it because you like the team, or like the jersey. IMO boards have been more than generous thus far, and to keep tapping them up is not a good idea.

In reality the only thing it would make sense for boards/daft to do is to stock the jerseys themselves and sell them onto us. But that would increase the cost for us, though it would mean a shorter turnaround time.

It would also make the option of the name on the new design a lot more awkward to work, or less likely to be done full stop.

Fair play Diego, could ya put me down for a large 1/4 zip SS jersey if the order is going ahead. Thanks! :)

It's not really the same thing. If it actually was a club or a team who competed as such, I might feel a bit different about it, and I would probably support it's riders. Most of the jerseys I like are plain anyway!

I'm not disrespecting the people who do like the jerseys. But boards.ie is worth a few bob, I'm sure the advertising revenue they make with banner ads generates a bit, it's mostly "staffed" for free. I just find it a bit strange that they make their revenue through advertising and wonder why you think asking them for more money would not be a good idea.

If we are doing this could we try and source a decent supplier for a Cap/Casquette?

The one that Carvalho did with the new design was pretty bad.

Don't forget the long lead time from order to delivery. IIRC it's something like 6 weeks so you'd want to get an order in by mid April to be on the road for June...

And a proper buff ! I was expecting a 'Buff' type buff, but the ones Carvalho did were neckwarmer type things.

Sure, but Astana / Radioshack etc. sponsor the team because they reckon the publicity is worth paying for. That’s partly seeing the pro riders decked out, but also partly the fans wearing replicas.

I’ve no idea whether daft would see it is a worthwhile business proposition to subsidise kit, but it would probably cost them less than a radio ad and as business people they’re not likely to be offended by asking.

Oh, I’d be in for a SS jersey L if this is going ahead – Go Diego Go.

+1. The one we have is great in the depths of winter, but it would be nice to have a light one without the toggle thing.

Based on this point, i'm going to take orders for 1/4 Zip Short Sleeve with Shorts only in the new style pink/red.

First option for this order will go to Ryath, Daragh, Captain Havoc, Lemag, Dquirk1, Plastik, Somefool, Donie 75 and Dited.

I'm limiting this to 10. I'm starting a new thread for the spreadsheet. The names quoted will be added as i did say i'd limit it to top 10....they have until 5pm on friday to decide if they want to go ahead with the order or not.

Why does competing make a difference... at the end of the day, it's branded merchandise, just like a team shirt, or anything else. If you like the brand or the style buy it, if not, don't, but why should it be subsidized?

I'm not trying to get at you here studiorat, and I realise that you're not disrespecting anyone, but I think that their business model is beside the point. They gave us money in the past to cover the design costs, and as far as I'm concerned it was very generous of them, and to continue asking for money everytime an order goes in would be taking the piss -they are not sponsors of a cycling team, so why should they just give out cash so someone can get a cheaper jersey.

Another thing to bear in mind is that it may not necessarily be 'good' advertising for them -if they got closer to us in terms of sponsorship etc, they'd be within their rights to ask that certain standards etc were followed by anyone wearing 'their' jersey (they don't want the media full of "most boards.ie folk jump red lights and ride on the footpad"), and that just leads to madness.

As I said earlier, the best way to look upon it is that we are boards users who like a nice jersey that was designed by another boards user, and the admins and higher ups are gracious enough to licence the logo's to us for free, with no strings attached.
as business people they’re not likely to be offended by asking.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against asking them for a couple of quid, in fact I was the first to ask for some when putting together the first order a few years ago, I just don't feel like the "we're giving you advertising, therefore you should give us loads of money" is the right attitude to have

EDIT 2 - Pls ignore all the above. I am in, with Cookie_Monster taking the shorts.
