    2 questions really

First is how do you find out who owns a dog just from a microchip no ?
A golden lab strayed into work yesterday, nioce friendly well trained bitch, collar but no tags. Cant seem to find anyone local whos missing her or knows of someone who is missing one. Borrowed a scanner off a friend of mine so will scan her for a chip tomorrow. If she has one how do you go about finding the owner ?

Second question - My girlfriend's dog ( well she calls it hers but I bought it, feed it, trained it, look after it  ) managed to shred it's IKC reg papers before I got to send them off to get them changed into my name !! Dont have the breeders number or adress, all I have to go on is his chip number ...? What do I do to get it changed into my name ? never found the kennel club very helpful before :(

    1. "First is how do you find out who owns a dog just from a microchip no ?"

When the breeder registers the dog with the chip -his name address and telephone number are on the system. Bring the Lab to a vets and they will be able to track it on their system. They won't give you the details, but will make the phone call for you.

    2. "managed to shred it's IKC reg papers before I got to send them off to get them changed into my name !! Dont have the breeders number or adress, all I have to go on is his chip number ...? What do I do to get it changed into my name ? never found the kennel club very helpful before "

As above - bring "her" dog to the vets - they will contact the original breeder and maybe they could send you on a copy of the paperwork. Failing that you will have to write a letter, giving the microchip number, to the IKC., Fottrell House, Harold's Cross Bridge, Dublin 6W, phone them at 01-4533023 fax 01-4533237 or mail them at ikenclub at indigo.ie Just make sure you keep a copy of all your contact with them. When you do get your paperwork, COPY that too!

    Good luck!:D

PS register the dog on FIDO.ie too - just for peace of mind
