Ordered new car in Jan on the understanding it could take 10-12 weeks to arrive but probably 6-8 in practice. Now being told it will be 17 weeks! I've paid a deposit of a grand. Can I now change my mind or do I have any other options?

If it is clearly taking longer than your were told, you have a case to get your money back. I wouldnt panic though tbh. It a month or so more than you were prepared for.

Have you got delivery date in writing?

Nothing in writing. Just wondering what my options are tbh. I thought it might take 8 wks and now it's over twice that.

mickdw's right - it's only really a month late. You were hoping for best case scenario and are comparing the reality to that and so will be disappointed.

If you bought from an SIMI dealer then I'd be pretty sure you signed an order form that stated you can't request a refund of your deposit based on delayed delivery date.

    Dealer said 10 - 12 weeks
    you hoped for 6 - 8 weeks?

so in reality @ 16 weeks it is only 4 weeks over and above.
I ordered my new car last May 5th. was told around 8 - 10 weeks for delivery.. I got it on 5th October.. 20 weeks..!!
Was worth the wait though.. What car did you order?

Thats pretty sh1tty terms for the customer if it is stated as broadly as that n the standard SIMI contract. Is it any wonder then that we have people regularily on here complaining about being mislead on delivery dates.

4 week delay won't invalidate your contract - you'll forgo your deposit if you walk away.

In any event, if its SIMI you only have the option to go to some godawful arbitration type process.

No didn't sign any form just agreed verbally. Anyway, thanks to all for the replies. I guess I'll just wait the extra few weeks...it is annoying though!

My new motor is now in the dealers waiting to be PDIed ... amazingly the dealer quoted me 10 weeks for delivery and it has arrived bang on schedule .. I wasn't expecting that .. my last car was quoted a 10 week delivery which turned in to 22 weeks

You gave a guy a thousand Euros without even getting a signed order form? Wow.
