undefined variable in php script

    having a small problem here with some php that i cant figure out why its happening.
    when i run this script, it works fine, except in the input field for the dob_day i get
    <br /> <b>Notice</b>: Undefined variable: dob_day in <b>C:\xampp\htdocs\project\register.php</b> on line <b>164</b><br /> DD

    If i enter some details and leave a few bits blank, and click register, then it works, but when i first load the page i get the above text in the input box..

    any ideas? ive highlighted the line of code thats giving me problems.

    think i solved it by putting dob_day = ''; at top of script... :p
