Irish fathers make appeal to UN

A lobby group has made a submission to the United Nations claiming that fathers are treated as secondary to mothers in Ireland, especially following separation or divorce.

Equality for Fathers has made a submission to the UN’s Universal Periodic Review on Ireland’s human rights record, which will be discussed at a meeting of the review working group next October.

Yesterday was the last day for submissions.

It states that the children of separated parents are discriminated against in not having their right respected to have both parents act jointly on their behalf.

    Article here.

I wonder whether the UN would look into the Law Reform Commission's report? Also, I hope that Labour would get onboard to promote this case, as they had their own ideas regarding family law in Ireland (Guardianship Bill).

What is the UN going to do? Nothing.

What has the UN done about human rights atrocities? Nothing.

What do they care about fathers in Ireland? Nothing.

    Barking up the wrong tree.

Well I think fair play to them for trying. I mean better to go up and make their case as best they can and hope for a positive outcome, then shrug and look someplace else. Leave no stone unturned, as they say.

Women were granted equal rights when they fought and campaigned and marched and declared determination to see the day when they would be treated equally. I'm sure they were rebuffed many a time by many organisations across the world, but they never lost hope and never gave in.

Dads are doing the same now. So good luck to them, and fingers crossed.:)

What the UN will do HERE is question Ireland on this States record of Human Rights abuses.
The entire submission can be read HERE.
