I'm looking to travel from Derry to Dublin, leaving at lunchtime on Friday.I got Bus Éireann up but it doesn't depart til 4pm on Friday; too late for me.Same with flying as Aer Arann don't leave Derry til after 7pm.Is a 1.10pm train Derry to Belfast, then connection to Dublin Connolly my best route?Or is their another bus option, etc? Many thanks in advance

Have you tried the translink website?
Also consider getting a bus to Strabane and meeting the Letterkenny bus or one of the coach operators O'Donnell's etc.

Train at 1310 gets you to Connolly for 1815.

Alternatively Bus Eireann route 480 from Derry to Letterkenny at 1200 and then route 32 to Dublin arriving Busaras at 1720.

As the above poster says - use the journey planners on the Bus Eireann and Translink websites and you'll get your options.

I found the best way to do it Derry-Dublin or Dublin- Derry was the bus and train. Bus from Derry to Belfast is usually 7.50 GBP. Walk for 10 mins to the train station and if you book the train online its fairly reasonable. The train from Derry to Belfast is so slow its unbearable.

Agree with the above poster the Derry-Belfast leg on the train goes through Coleraine and is very scenic but slow.

I would get the 12.11 to Strabane, you will have an hour to spare before the Letterkenny-Dublin bus arrives. you are a five minute walk from Asda so you could get lunch and stock up on alcohol for the weekend when you are there (always a silver lining).

The 13.50 from Strabane get to the airport at 16.55 or Busaras at 17:20.

If you are doing it this way buy the Strabane - Dublin ticket in the office it is only £23ish return compared to €31 on the bus.

It's not that slow - it's around 30 minutes longer but that's only because it goes via Coleraine.

The individual Derry-Coleraine and Coleraine-Belfast journey legs actually slaughter the bus timewise.

Indeed, Derry-Coleraine should be a lesson to Irish Rail as it manages to beat the road despite jointed track and outdated signalling.
