Hi I was planning getting HTC Desire HD with meteor,
Any opinions on the new phones coming out in April, May.
Is it worth waiting for the new phones or will the HTC still
    hold its own.
    Any ideas welcome.
    Sean

Would probably be worth waiting, there should be a few new htcs out soon. Such as the Incredible S

What exactly is the difference between the Desire HD and Incredible S? At a glance it seems to just be the styling...

Samsung Galaxy S II should be coming out soon, I would wait till that hits the shelves, it will blow everything else on the market out of the water. HTC phones likely won't catch up til the October/November releases. I have not read rumours of what they plan to release at that time, but that is the time of year they have released Desire and Desire HD previously, which were their flagship phones. I expect the same this year. The Desire S and other 'S' phones that are due out soon are not successors to the HD, they remain below it imo.

So, basically, if you are prepared to wait a bit, and want an Android phone I would suggest Samsung Galaxy S II is probably what you should be looking at.

How soon is "soon" exactly does anybody know?
My Wildfire has just died on me due to pint of beer and drunken antics and would like to buy a HTC asap but I can't wait so long.

Xperia Play is out at the end of the month, the Playstation Phone if you don't know (although I'm sure you do). Looks incredible. That's what I'm getting :-)

Should I go ahead and get the Desire or Desire HD then (that's what I'm looking at atm) as I need a phone in the next few days ...wish I could wait though :(

I highly recommend the desire HD. If you can't wait then go for it. You wont be let down.

A smidge OT but am I the only crazy person who would still buy an original desire over the HD?

Not crazy at all. If that's what ya want then go for it. Personally I rather the HD but that's only me.

Battery life issues on the DHD have been overstated a bit.

Camera is lacking in low light.

Given Sony's history with android phones, i would urge you to think twice.

I have the Desire HD and I'm delighted with it. It does everything I want and more. I was in the same predicament as yourself OP 2 months ago. I was looking down the line regarding what is going to be released soon but no matter when you buy a phone there is always going to be something new & better coming out shortly. My advice is just bite the bullet and buy now as you won't be disappointed.

iv had a lotta different phones, htc hd 2, sony xperia 1, sony x10, etc etc...i bought a dell streak a few days ago, and I can say it is without doubt the most epic peice of kit iv ever had! massive screen, unreal audio quality, real solid build, relatively unique....the x10 from sony is a non event in comparison!

I'm in a similar situation.. Due 2 upgrades from meteor in April. Plan to hold on for new phones tho, had a desire and desire HD this week. I kept the desire, found the HD to be a bit too big and the screen on the desire was far far better...

I have both the desire ( work phone) and a hd ( personal) I much rather the hd I prefer the larger screen easier for typing and easier on the eyes for web surfing and watching videos.

The battery life is comparable I have to charge both every night after fairly heavy use lots of calls on the desire and all my web surfing on the hd.

To be honest if you can't wait for the next gen dual core phone to come out as we probably won't see them here till the end of the year, you won't be disappointed with either desires.
