Our MTB introductory course is starting this month. Over three weekends we’ll introduce riders to off-road riding and the trails.

We’re going to start our MTB Intorductory Series this weekend. Our first ride will be around Massey's Wood – meeting at The Merry Ploughboy car park at 9:40am for a 10am start on Sunday 27th of March.

These spins are suitable for everyone – although a basic level of bike-fitness will really help. See the information on our Beginners Page for details on what to wear and bring. Helmets are compulsory for all riders – no exceptions under any circumstances.

There is no charge for the course but everyone will have an opportunity to join MAD afterwards.

Check out the information on the site and if you have any further questions please email committee@madmtb.com.

    What to bring?
There are a few essentials which you should have with you on every ride:
Water – at least one drink bottle full
Food – you use up a lot of energy while mountainbiking so it’s important to refuel regularly. Bring whatever you like to eat. Fig Rolls are always popular.
Spare tube (or two) – You’re sure to get a puncture eventually so it’s wise to have a spare tube with you. It’s faster to change a tube then to patch an old one (you can patch it at home later)
Pump – You won’t get far if you can’t inflate your tyre after a puncture. Don’t assume someone else will have one
Basic tools – at a mininum you should have tyre levers and allen keys for the bolts on your bike. If you’re unsure about working on your bike just ask someone in the club.

Do you need to make the first one to go to the others?

Good stuff, just what I need too! How often do you do them? I know a few heads who would be interested, but can't make it on Sun...?

There will be three introductory spins to start with. There will also be a series of spins which follow these but you will have to join to go on spins after the introductory series.

Will head up on Sunday, just getting started, so seems like a great way to get going!

This sounds really good! Is it ok to still go if you are not 100% the fittest :)

Weather looks good, strongly considering doing this in lieu of my road spin (or in addition to a short Saturday spin).

Fi H, I doubt you need to be particularly fit. If it's starting from the Merry Ploughboy, they'll probably go in the back entrance to Massey's, which is only a few hundred meters up the road, and not a huge climb.
Likewise the entrance to the hellfire is only a matter of going across Massey's. Going up Montpelier (which I assume they're doing) is steep enough in places, but only a short trip, anyone who can spend more than 20 minutes on a bike without dying will be able to andle it.

I'd love to go, especially given the great weather, but I don't have a helmet yet. Will there be other MAD sessions later on in the Summer/Autumn? I just need to get a helmet and a hydration pack and will hopefully have them at the start of Summer.

Im not sure if there will be another series due to racing etc. Keep an eye on the website or join the mailing list.
You could post on our forum to see if someone can bring a spare helmet for you. You dont need a hydration pack, a bottle will be fine.
