iPod that never loses the last track you were playing.

I'm sure some of you guys have owned every generation of iPod down the years.

I have re-purposed an iPod Photo (a.k.a. 4g) as a player in my car. I have a useful cigarette lighter based charger/remote, and the combination is convenient, as it is right at my fingertips.

Major annoyance is that if I don't start the car for 2 days, when I do, it loses where it was and plays the first song by the first artist, alphabetically. This is poor form, given it has a hard disk it could write this info.

I would like an iPod that corrects this. It can be a discontinued model, as I would be happy to buy used. I need 30+GB and compatibility with most iPod accessories (the charger/remote is a lot newer than the iPod only two years old).

    Suggestions?

You can change that setting on iTunes. Right click on the song, go to info, and there is an option for remember last position. Mainly use that with audiobooks.

Would I have to do that on every song in my collection? Are you sure it works if the iPod 4G is off for a few days?

I don't know exactly. I do know that it works across devices (ie was listening to book on my iPod, synced to iTunes, and copied to iPhone and place was saved)

You can just select all songs and right click. Don't need to do it one by one.
