World Snooker Championship 2011 - Who is your money going on?

I was having a look at this today and I'm a little undecided. I usually put a few quid on John Higgins, another likely contender and a quid or two on an outsider.

16/1 looks decent for Shaun Murphy, especially after the win at The Helix. The outsider could be Matt Stevens (80/1), Stephen Hendry (50/1) or even Graeme Dott (25/1).

Also, might put some loose change on Judd trumping Neil on the opening day (first time champion hoo-doo and all that). ;)

    Odds from BoyleSports (21-3-2011):
    5/1 - Higgins, John
    6/1 - O'Sullivan, Ronnie
    13/2 - Selby, Mark
    15/2 - Junhui, Ding
    8/1 - Robertson, Neil
    8/1 - Williams, Mark
    16/1 - Allen, Mark
    16/1 - Murphy, Shaun
    20/1 - Carter, Allister
    20/1 - Maguire, Stephen
    25/1 - Dott, Graeme
    40/1 - Cope, Jamie
    40/1 - Fu, Marco
    50/1 - Hendry, Stephen
    70/1 - Day, Ryan
    70/1 - Gould, Martin
    70/1 - Walden, Ricky
    70/1 - Ebdon, Peter
    80/1 - Stevens, Matthew
    80/1 - Trump, Judd
    90/1 - King, Mark
    100/1 - Bingham, Stuart
    100/1 - Perry, Joe
    100/1 - Hawkins, Barry
    100/1 - Lee, Stephen
    175/1 - Harold, Dave
    175/1 - Mcleod, Rory
    250/1 - Dale, Dominic
    300/1 - Campbell, Marcus
    350/1 - Burnett, Jamie
    350/1 - Robertson, Jimmy
    400/1 - Pagett, Andrew

Really can't see beyond Higgins, but for some value I may just have an each way punt on Peter Ebdon, long matches, vast amounts of mental strength required, doesn't that sound like a job for Ebdon??

Mind you with my history of tips, you would be well advised to stay clear!!!

You could do a lot worse than stick a fiver on Jimmy Robertson, a mad bet you may say, but this guy is an ex English amateur champion, a fantastic feat in itself, he won four matches to reach the crucible and after watching him win seven in a row against Ken at the Academy two weeks ago 350-1 is some value!

Could be time for Selby this year.

Wont be betting this year, just about 10 players have a realistic chance of winnin it, sit back and enjoy the snooker without the bets is my advice altho if you can get the over/under on ammount of centuries made, i would take the over as the quality of snooker has gone up a notch this year with all the extra tournaments been played. ;)

ill be throwing a few bob on ding think he could make a breakthrough this year maybe with an outside bet on allen .... promising, might be a bit nervy though

Yeah, there are loads of players around the same level at the moment, probably more than ever before or at least in my memory. I'll probably have a bet, but usually leave it until after the first round. Odds won't come in too much and I like to see how the players are fairing before backing someone. Robertson and Williams at 8/1 are tempting, though.

Must be the first time in a long time O'Sullivan isn't favorite going into the tournament, isn't it?

Will be setting aside some money for this as i do every year.

Stevens, Selby, Higgins will all be getting my money.

Stevens is worth a tenner anyways.

50 on Higgins and 50 on Selby

    stevens?? long shot there

It is indeed, but he is playing quite well recently and has been to the final before so has that experience under his belt.

    Defo worth a tenner :pac:

Mark Williams is the talking horse. I think he's on a rich seam of form and playing some of the best snooker right now. just looks very a comfortable and confident player again. Thats who my money is going on. 10/1 on betfair right now.

i'd throw a tenner on Ding to win

very open this year, i think higgins is favourite but
selby could win it as he has an excellent game suited to the
    longer format of the wc

You are the only legend in this year's tournament. The highlight of last year's championship was Davis beating Higgins to get to the last 8. We probably won't see Davis at the Crucible this year. Hopefully Hendry can fly the flag for the old timers this year, it would be nice to see him having a run.

We won't (not playing anyway) he got destroyed 10-2 by a resurgent Stephen Lee in the final qualifying round last week. :(

Ironically, if he had won that match he would have come up against John in the first round proper.

Think I will go for Murphy this year, very solid over the longer format and if he gets in the groove he will take serious beating. Dunno who to go for an outsider, might go for Robertson but he has a very tough opener against Selby.

Think Robertson has Trump in 1st round.

Sorry Giant midget I meant to say Jimmy Robertson.
Dont think we could put Neil Robertson in the outsider bracket:D.

Whos my money on? I remember getting excited about the worlds 10 years ago, I always had a sly bet on stephens/hann/mcguire. Loved it!

Snooker for me has fallen away, im just not interested when a blob (a possibl cheat) like stephen lee is fighting away against jonh higgins (another possible cheat).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭clanard

Dunno about fallen about Art but there will always be a question mark over him now. Met him and played him myself in exhibition and a true gent but its a pity what happened. Think his managet might of taken the hit, its hard to know.
But anyway am still looking forward to the World's.

imo whoever wins the Selby-Junghui quarter final will win it, with slight preference for Ding

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

did Graeme Dott qualify? I was gutted for him last year, but Robertson was brilliant.

I dont bet, mainly because I dont understand it, but I really enjoy watching other people shout tips at eachother and curse the people who give them bad ones. LOL

    Ive gone with
    1) Williams E/W to win (In fantastic form, got beaten by an on fire Stephen Lee in China Open)
    2) Selby to Win (Likes the longer format, will definitely win one and is on the easier side of the draw)
    3) Stephen Lee E/W to win (Fantastic win over Williams in China Open and hammered Davis in qualifiers but is probably too inconsistent to win this marathon but worth an outside punt)
    4) Trump to win quarter 1 (Robertson in poor form - Trump nothing to lose)
    5) Trump to be furthest progressing qualifier. (Once he beats Robertson - has a handy enough route to the semi's)

    Williams is a lock
