    Hi,
I am also hoping to race in Limerick. Looking forward to it, even if training for the last few weeks has not been the best,
Don't look like many board's members are doing it.
Got the race pack, Early start for everyone and only 5 mins between waves, will be a lot on the road at the one time.
Hope your training is going well and might see you there on the day.

    Regards

    Hey Ceepo,

No, it doesn't appear that too many from here are doing it.

The roads will be a bit congested alright, but should be a good atmosphere.

Do you have any idea how many in total will be racing. A big number of Irish AG but will there be many from other nations?

Hope the rest of the training goes well for you.

    Cheers,

    NT.

Hi guys, I had planned doing this but I went and booked flights for myself and the misses as a christmas present...completely forgot..doh! Hope ye both go well!

What's the story with registering for the open race. They said registration would be open until the 31st of March but it seems to be closed now. Surely the open race isn't full?

    Yeah, doing it.

(Assuming I'm fit - Training has been a disaster with injuries etc.) No running for 2 weeks. Hoping to restart next week. Aim is not to finish last in my AG.

600 people on a 7.5k bike loop will be fun. 10 meters between each bike means it is a 6km train.

Going across the bridge to turn around again just over the bridge, BEFORE the roundabout seems odd too.

El D, you seem to have a great time with all the holidays you have :D

Ceepo, I am in the 30-34 AG, what about yourself?
Looking forward to it now, hopefully there will be a good buzz about the city.

Nwm2, it will be a good train alright, better get out the measuring tape. Which AG are you in?

Entry for the open race is open again. I'm just trying to enter now & they are looking for an estimated run time. Is that for your overall run or the first run leg?

It's overall estimated run time they are looking for.

Race entry is still open for anybody who is still interested.
I think its a big cheeky that the race entry price includes your ODL
but if you have a full TI Licence you still pay the full amount.

    I'm in 40/44 AG.
Should be a good day, and would have to agree with you nwm2 about going over the bridge just to turn and come back but it will slow down the fast guys lol.

    Pwei
Also agree with you on the ODL

Think we should meet up after for a coffee or pint after for a chat if anyone is up for it

Anybody get the race briefing email today? I can't believe the registration for the open race is on Thursday & Friday. This means if you don't live near Limerick you have to make a full weekend of it as the open race is on Sunday. This really sucks as I was planning on heading down on Saturday evening. :(

Have people tried on their Trisuits?

Mine is very revealing in the, ahem, crotchular area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 583 ✭✭✭NeedsTraining

    Hey Nwm2,

The suits are fitted alright. No time for worrying about image in them.

I received my one last week but the letters are peeling off already. Are yours ok?

We had this problem with the suits last year before the Euro AGs in Athlone. T.I. offered a service whereby you could take your suit to a print/design shop in Athlone and they ironed the letters on properly (no charge). So maybe ask T.I. if they're doing that again. Definitely get it done before you wash the suit otherwise the letters will never stick!

Well, I tried mine on once then took it straight off and haven't looked at it since, but didn't notice anything.

At what stage did you notice the letters peeling? Have you worn yours in anger? I guess going for a quick brick session would be a good idea.

TI said a week ago: "While we understand your frustrations, please bear with us and RZ3 while we resolve the situation with the manufacturer and I will notify you by email as soon as we have a resolution"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 583 ✭✭✭NeedsTraining

    Thanks Bungy Girl,

TI did send an email, but have not followed up and have not bothered to reply to email. Says a lot about the org if you ask me.

Nwm2, I noticed the letters straight away when I tried it on. Afraid to wear it for a brick in case it falls apart :D

The more I look at the course, the less I like it (being a local athlete).

I guess the organisers had a lot of constraints to work with.

They make this statement about the run course:

"It is separate from the bike course and uses scenic central city public roads closed from car traffic and is 2.5 km long with several laps. The run course is barriered along its entire route for participant and public safety. "

But it is not fully separate. The second run course takes us over the same bridge as the bike course. So we will have bikes going both ways and runners going one way across the same bridge? Runners go on the footpath I guess. No spectators on the bridge so.

The first run course has a turn around under the Sarsfield swing bridge, but the second run course goes straight through the same point. With the different waves and speeds, will everyone have finished the first run by the time the fast guys start on the second one?

Also, there are 2 turnarounds on each lap of the bike course, both of which are 20 meters before a roundabout, but don't use the roundabout. So 5 laps = 10 x coming to almost dead stop and turning around.

I stand to be corrected on all this in case my reading comprehension is poor.

I guess it was very difficult to get courses that had realistic traffic imlpications and was also good for spectators.

Well that went off pretty well. Bike course was fine apart from the rough patch from Salesians to the Strand.

Run course was not as confusing as it appeared after the team briefing!! Still, glad I had my Garmin on so no worries about keeping track on either bike or run.

    Weather was perfect.

Only Team GB and Team IRL in my AG.

Personally I hit a 10k PB on the run - nice and flat, but course about 50m short?

I was a spectator today but seemed to go off well and weather cleared up lovely, 2 sharp turns on the bike i thought but other than that course was very very flat handy. Few did get confused on the last run when they went to turn down by the treaty stone again rather than the opposite direction.

Roll on the open and elite race tomorrow.

    well done today to all.

Great race today, very fast course and really enjoyed it.
City centre loops are great, from a competitor and spectator viewpoint.

Not surprised the second run route caused some confusion as it was very badly explained at the race briefing. Anyway, enough about the negatives.

Very well run event, weather great, good buzz about the city.
The sharp turns helped slow down the faster guys, so all good :D

Well done all who took part.

Well that was a great weekend of action
Well done to Limerick TC and TI,

Good course and a well run race/races

Really enjoyed the Mens Elite race, Great race from Robbie Wade, just a pity he could not stay with the pack on the first run as the other 3 guys were no help, Rich Hobby (GB) SAID SORRY MAN have 4 team mates up the road, pity as would have been a good help otherwise,
Felt a bit sorry for Mike Y as after going through the first ml in 4.37 he was always going to suffer,

Junior boys clearly emptied the tank, well done to them, I'm sure they will learn a lot from the race.

I think the first 3 guys in the Open race would have been more suited to the AG race, (my opinion)

Happy enough with my own race, as i had a few weeks with things not going my way training wise, but thats life.

NWM2 Don't no about the Garmin on that course as there was to many 360 bends. 1 op said his was 6.19, 1 op said 6.23, so don't know after that. Not worried anyway,
How did yourself and Needs Training get on
    .

PWEI did you race ?. how did you go?

Was delighted with my own results - was as good as I could have aimed for (closer to the bottom of my AG than the top, but that's no surprise). Like yourself, my training wasn't great. Very little running for the last 5 weeks due to ITB issues (2 weeks of no running, then 3 weeks of 20-30 min slow jogging 3 x per week).

But I snuck under the 40 min for the first 10k and apparently did the 2nd 5k in not much more than 18min. The second I find especially hard to believe as I was cramping for the first couple of hundred meters before I sorted myself out and took off. I didn't switch off my Garmin at the finish line, but I would have been sure that the time would have been 19:XX.

My bike suffered significantly due to the effort I put into the 10k. This was my first full length duathlon and I wasn't sure of the pacing (I had missed all of my planned key brick sessions due to injury) and found myself averaging about 85% of FTP rather than the 90-95% I was aiming for. But I'm glad I went by perceived effort rather than power, as I might not have recovered from cramping at the start of the 5k.

I was there alright Ceepo but unfortunately couldn't race. :(
I picked up an itbs injury the weekend before due to overtraining.
It's very very frustrating when you've entered something but are unable to take part. Even more frustrating when your watching it.
I went along anyway on Sunday to watch the open as a friend of mine was taking part. Also watched the elite race later on in the day.
The open race was pretty chaotic with so many taking part. When the race leaders starting lapping the slow cyclists it got really dangerous. I was watching it from the start line by the river & saw a lot of close calls coming around the bend especially when the road narrowed just after the large blue mat. Derval Devaney nearly got knocked off her bike when some guy pulled across her and tipped her bike. She wobbled but luckily she managed to hold it steady.
I really enjoyed the elite race, great to watch the Pros at it. I was surprised that there was only about 20 athletes taking part in the elite mens race. I suppose with the Olympics next year a lot of the top guys are concentrating on getting precious Olympic Tri points.

    PWEI

Sorry to hear you could not take part, Hope you will be back in action soon.

It was getting a bit tight there in parts especially around the bean at the Strand, with some people slowing down and the the speed merchants going hard into the bend.
Dont think there was any accidents all the same, Probably a good job the took the section over the bridge out as there was a few crashes there in the AG race,

    NWM2
The rest must have done you good, well done on the pb, its always nice but even sweeter when you have to do a 40k bike and 5k run after it.

Was on the point of cramping myself a few times on the 2nd run, anytime i tried to pick up the pace, Hard to pace alright, pity there is not more of full distance duathlon races on, would be great experience for races like these,
Might never get the chance to race it again or to improve on my time.

    Maybe next year !!
