Laptop battery needs replacing...apparently

So today I got a warning message on the battery indicator on my Packard Bell laptop saying "consider replacing your battery". I have had the laptop about a year and a half. Looked up google and there seems to be an issue alright. I'm on Windows 7 but can't find any fixes.

Would anyone be aware of any fixes, other than actually purchasing a new battery?

Try discharging it fully and recharging it fully. Do you use the device on battery alot? You could try ensuring you're using power saving measures when running on battery. Run power on max battery mode and dim the screen. Turn off wifi and bluetooth

I usually have the laptop plugged in but when it is running on the battery it lasts for 2 hours. Today I fully charged it (there's a red X on the icon while charging now) and when I unplugged it still gives the warning and only lasts for about 30 mins now. Power saving features won't fix it as the warning is on the icon constantly.

Did you check the packard bell site for any firmware update for your device?

This exact same thing happened my packard bell a few weeks ago. Was working fine, turned it off and it installed windows updates. Next day this problem appeared. Put it down to that update. Laptop is very rarly ran from battery for more than 5 mins while going from room to room. Would be very interested in seeing how this turns out.

My laptop is the Packard Bell Easynote TJ61
