For centuries if not millenia different regions have fought tooth and nail over religion, power or both. Just over 65 years ago many European countries were at war however today we are united. Over the last few decades the western world's awareness and knowledge of other nations customs and practices has led to better relations with many of these nations.

At a personal level travel has done a lot for me in terms of awareness and understanding but I think the internet has a huge part to play too. One often fears what one doesn't understand and the web is a great source of knowledge. Also it's a place that brings people together promoting better understanding, less fear, more acceptance. When the world is fully webbed will it eventually lead to world peace and prosperity?

The web is also a massive source of evil, conspiracies and of course porn, lots and lots of porn!:pac::pac::pac:

The Internet gives everyone a voice. But when you look at things like 4chan and the amount of insane girlie fans of people like Justin Beiber on Twitter, you realise that not everyone should have a voice. In fact, a lot of people need to shut the **** up.

As said above, everyone has a voice and in a lot of cases most people who have a voice on the internet are trolls and douchebags, but with so many outlets for users, these people can easily be avoided.

Interracial gangbangs on the internet have taught us so much.

    No.
You obviously don't understand human nature.

Energy crisis and the water crisis will be the main causes of war and conflict in the future.

"The Internet is a beacon light that has the power to shine into even the darkest corners of planet earth.

That light will dispel lies and free the oppressed.

That light will bring hope to the hopeless and joy to joyless.

Wars will be fought on foot of what truth this light brings but these will be short lived compared to wars devoid of truth.

Religious suppression and control of man will end.

Vaginas and penises will no longer hold shame.

The day of the fig leaf covered statues will be forever no more.

The Internet will bring all that, yes all that and much much more."

I hear you but if the western world has achieved the ability to get along quite well and in fact work together why can't this eventually spread worldwide? You go back in history and people fought for territory on a local basis, then as communities unite it was country by country and now more like continent by continent / religious belief, i.e. Christian V Arab. History shows that better understanding of each other gives us the ability to work together and the web can certainly contribute to this understanding of culture, economics, etc.

Its right up there with the invention of the printing press. All of human knowledge at my fingertips. Makes the world more democratic and shifts the balance of power back to the little people.

Without a shadow of a doubt there's all sorts of sh1te on the net but, for me anyhow, there's plenty of stuff I wouldn't have known about other races without use of the net. I'm not gonna go to the library to pick up a book on muslim culture for example, but due to discussions right here on AH it is now a culture I have more knowledge and understanding of.
