I'm kind of assuming that given the forum the OP is asking about tattoo shops, and specifying not 'touristy' tattoo shops? If so:-

New York Adorned (and its sister shops) is one of the most respected tattoo shops in NYC. http://www.nyadorned.com/

There are plenty of other shops in the NYC and burroughs area - google them and look at the portfolios ... Rising Dragon in NYC, Three Kings in Brooklyn etc.

Be aware that for the better artists in the likes of NY Adorned there's going to be a waiting list. :pac:

Sacred Tattoo! Its on Broadway, in Chinatown.

Got my Tiger tattoo done there by Shey last year and could be happier.

I think this is the forum you're looking for. Try doing a search for New York first though. Could be plenty of threads on it.

Tattooing is simply a way or art on the body. I chose this career because I love art work. You can damage your new tattoo design on your body during the tattoo healing process. Many people get side effects or other skin issues because of little mistakes. Because of our tattooing profession, we know how to prevent tattoo cracking and bleeding.
