Yes, this is another thread on going blonde. But unfortunately it's more complicated. I have naturally light brown, 'mousey' hair, which i always hated! So for about four years i'v been dying it chocolate brown. Maybe every two months or so. But at Christmas i decided to change things and dyed it red, using schwarzkopf xxl in plum red i think it's called. But maybe a month ago i tried to get rid of it by using my usual dark brown colour. That didn't cover the red and right now it's as red as ever!! So for awhile now i'v been saving up a few euro every week so i can go get my hair professionally done, i mean new colour (blonde) and new style. A total change.

    So my questions are:
    a) Should i use colour b4? So i don't have to get my hair stripped and the blonde would show up much better against my natural hair colour.
    b) Will i have to get highlights in different stages in order to become blonde or do some hair dresses prefer not to do it in stages? I would prefer getting it all done at once.
    c) Does anybody know anywhere good to go in Galway city?
    d) Realistically how much will it cost? I'v shoulder length hair, not to thick and not to thin.

    Thanks :)

Going from red to blonde was a nightmare for me - it took three sets of highlights (although my hair was pretty much firetruck red at the time) to get to blonde. I wouldn't dye it again before going, you're only layering even more colour onto your hair, so it'll be harder to get rid of. You can't actually get rid of red by covering it, it'll still be hidden under the brown - the only way of getting rid of red is by removing it with bleach. Highlights are probably your best option - if they're done well the transitory colour will still be nice while you're waiting to get to the colour you want.

I'd try the colour b4 first to get it as light as possible before using bleach or anything else.

Try Colour B4 and see how it comes out. I went brown last year and attempted to keep it touched up myself with a home dye kit that came out almost black, so I used head and shoulders to fade it a bit and then i heard about colour b4. It didn't work to well on my hair cos it was cuticle damaged but it did fade it a bit. I was at the hair dresser today actually had to get it stripped and dyed blonde, and I'll have to get hi lights in a couple of weeks to brighten it more!

I had your probe. Def use Colour B4 extra strength..I didn't dye my for a bit after using it tho, simply because I had the time to stand the orange tinge it went (was doing my dissertation and didn't leave the house for ages!!)

I went to Lola and Belle in Salthill and got a full head of highlights in a moment of weakness; cost a bloody fortune and was only okay as she used half bleach, half something else...

A few weeks later I went to a college of hairdressing over here in London sa i was skint and they put in half a head of highlights..got it lighter but not what i wanted, again...

Went for ANOTHER half head of highlights a bit later, this time all bleach and it went blonder but never got it white blonde like I wanted...

Previous to all of this however, I went to the place on top of Supermacs in the Square to get the red stripped out of it; and after two 'strips' and a new colour (light brown)..it came out red.....Because I wasn't assertive enough and was so tired having sat in the chair for most of the day I barely complained and have regretted it since...the hairdresser who does brilliant cuts obviously didn't strip it properly...

Check the Galway thread for recommendations on hairdressers/colourists..but if I were you I really would suggest Colour B4ing your hair yourself as salons charge a fortune for it. Then check a full head of highlights if your hair can handle it...

I just went red and my hairdresser told me if I wanna go back to blonde I need to go brown again first (I'm a brunette) then blonde highlights and go gradually up

So I would suggest go brown then get blonde highlights before going full blonde?

Ok, so last night i used the colour b4.. My hair is bright ginger. I look like a clown.. But hopefully it'll fade a bit? Think i'll let it calm down for awhile and then go to the hairdressers. Thanks for all yer advice, looks like it'll e awhile before i get the blonde i want :(

I have mousey blonde hair naturally, and i was getting it highlighted for 10 years or more. I always got 3 blonde shades in it each time (every 3 months) and it gets brighter the more you get it done. Anyway, a couple of years ago i went brunette because i was bored and wanted a change. I'm going through this same phase again now :-(

I loved it during the winter but i wanted to be blonde during the summer again so i went to get it highlighted. It took a full year to go back to my lovely blonde colour as hairdresser said they didnt want to damage my hair. Its more natural also when its done gradually. Its in good condition now and I really like the blonde colour but i am going through that phase where I want a change... I know if i go dark it will take ages to get it back to blonde again.

I've had some awful highlights through the years. The 3 shades works for me best and only getting it done every 3 months keeps it in ok condition. I usually pay about €100 each time and ask them to do them as close to the roots as possible.
