Just wondering if anyone could recommend the best place for spotting in Shannon? I will be passing by next weekend and was thinking of popping in for an hour or two. I'm a long time Cork spotter but have never gone spotting in Shannon. Any help much appreciated.

Its so quite there at present you may not even see a plane in the time you spend there, the Airport shortened the brilliant viewing area that was there before due to the Anti War people so its not a great area for viewing now, in the old days you were right at the start of runway 24 which was great for pics etc.

Also if you go on past the aerospace on until you get to a T junction and go left down the narrow(and twisty) road till the end, you'll get to the end of 24, or alternatively the start of 06,
Allows you to get photos/views like this if the airplanes do show up:D

Great stuff. Sounds good. I'll certainly take a wander down there. Thanks for the tip.

A pity... I used to love going there as a kid and even a few years back to take photos... Now that the peace protestors have kind of stopped at the airport (looks like War won) I wonder would they open it up again... ?

If you are only spotting there's a perfectly good viewing gallery (behind glass) perched on top of the terminal. Accessible by lift from landside in the terminal area. Views of the entire field.

With Wifi, so you can hook up your tablet/smartphone to liveatc/fr24 and see and hear who's who. It's almost like being a secondary ATC. :D

    This too shall pass.
