A visit by the U.S. President or a visit by the British Queen?

Both Obama and Elizabeth are coming to visit Ireland in May.

Which visit in May do you think is most important to Ireland and the Irish people?

If you had to choose, would you prefer a visit by the Queen of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or would you prefer a visit by the President of the United States of America?

I would prefer a visit from 93 votes

The President of the United Staes of America

The Queen of the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland
    70% 66 votes
    Neither

Why is everyone coming when we've no money?

The "Oh, I left my wallet at home" one is starting to fade out.

Definitely Obama. The fact he doesn't smell of wee wee is a big plus in Pighead's book.

The Queen. Obama was elected and got a peace prize for nothing. The Queen didn't; she's hardcore.

Personally I'd much prefer a visit by Mara Carfagna, Italian Minister for Equal Opportunity, appointed by guess who?

    Definitely Obama.

What's so exciting about the Queen? She doesn't do anything. As Bill Bailey said the royal family are "unelected sponges"
All though it might help some people get over the whole hating Brits thing. Hopefully it goes off without anything stupid happening.

What's so good about Obama? First black (even though he's not black) guy to get elected? Won a Peace Prize for nothing?

At least with the Queen you might get a few riots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭sdanseo

The Queen's visit will be much more important politically, what with it being the first visit by the head of state of our nearest neighbour in such a long time.

Plus, Obama has nothing to apologise for. Whereas I fully hope Liz will be on her knees sucking me off begging for forgiveness.

One thing's for sure though, I hope they invite Ronan O'Gara to the state banquet ;)

Well the Queen is a Protestant and Obama a Muslim so Medvedev.

Actually I heard an American analyst say that Obama's advisers are anxious for a visit to his ancestors birthplace in Ireland as it will dispel the myth of him being a Muslim once and for all.

Ah sure he wasn't even born there. At least with the Queen you'll get honesty; with Obama you just get a slogan stolen from a kid's cartoon.

seems a little black - round the edges like.

    Big fan of Obama but..

Think it'll be much better for Ireland that Liz pops over-politically speaking and regarding potential tourism..

He's mulatto. It's like saying a half-Asian, half-white guy being taoiseach and then saying it's the first Asian one.

but what if this Asian Taoiseach was Asian on the outside and all Paddy on the inside?

    what then?

and would he be called a yellar-bellied Irishman be the Brits?

Why? What has he done apart from get elected to be worthy of any adulation?
