Or should I be looking at the GTI instead of the TDI?!

    I'm lost, can haz help?

I don't get the confusion, they are 2 completely different types of cars!!

One is a high power, high revving track car made slightly comfortable for the road and one is an economical, soft, shopping/commuter mobile.

    Are you serious?

Jaysis, it's comparing apples and oranges really, one is a balls out, high revving speed machine and the other is a diesel econobox. I'd drive both if I was you. MPG won't compare at all but I can guarantee smiles per gallon will sway in the way of the Honda

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Is the TDI a 1.9? Pocket rockets those. Deadly.

    Just get the DC5.

If I recommended the TDI I feel I'd be prosecuted for assisted suicide.
    Yeah. They're that shít.

Obviously you like both :) what sort of mileage do you do and would there be any insurance issue for you? THe Honda wouldn't be easy to insure for many 30 males. THe diesel would return typically 40 per cent more mpg. As you have mentioned the petrol gti golf may well suit.

Its grand, in fairness the DC5 is hardly a speed machine.Guys above are going on like its a Lambo or something:D

DC5 is a great machine, fast enough, great handling, beautiful when its had a good wax/clean and its reliable, I would love one myself.

Golf Tdi ( the GT Tdi 150bhp im guessing?) is nippy standard, quick when its
been remapped/tuned to 190bhp, good on fuel, reliable also, handles ok, great motorway car, but not a track/handler like the DC5.

Depends what you want in a car really, if you will be blasting up and down the motorway and doing alot of driving the Golf 150bhp tdi would be better suited, anything else DC5 is much much better.

    Both have postives imo.

I'm 25f with 6yrs no claims & full licence so insurance not really an issue, but I do travel about a 50mile round trip for work every day.

if you like driving - DC5
if you go from A to B - Golf

    300 odd miles a week ....
It's a tough one really, if you love the DC5 you'll regret buying the Golf, I can't see you regretting buying the DC5 though. I suppose the best thing to do would be to testdrive each of them and some GTi Golfs too. Take your time and enjoy the shopping around.
