Do I need to get my boiler services by law?

    Hi,

A couple of weeks ago I got a call from Bord Gais saying my boiler was due a service. They told me about a special of 99 quid if I get it done before the end of April... couple of questions?

    1) Do I actually need to get this done (by law)? The boiler is working perfectly fine.
    2) Is 99 euros good or normal for a service?

    Thanks in advance

you should get your boiler serviced out of common sense

if one tiny little piece of ''sacrificial'' material comes apart then basically you're fúcked

    99 is an ok price
a friend of mine used to do them for 90 but 90-120 is about average

    By law i dont know

But by law if someone dies in your home and its a result of carbon monoxide poisioning from your boiler you are liable unless its serviced regular.

Also your house insurence may not cover you if your boiler leaks and you have not been servicing it.

Lastly I would not use board gais..

I would contact an rgii installer in your area. They are roughly the same price and imo they carry out more checks.

It only a legal requirement for landlords to have tenants boilers serviced.

99 euro is quite expensive for a service ,75 is about right for a wall hung boiler and maybe 85 for a back boiler.

Should be a sticker of some sort on the boiler with a date ,thats normally how the services are recorded on the boiler.

Landlord responsibilities include safety of gas and electrical appliances that they supply.

Bang on. Unless specifically in your rental agreement the boiler is the responsability of the landlord.

However there has been a lot of threads on this. Its a hard thing to get the landlord to service. Perhaps if you zoom on over to accomadation then the natives might tell you how to kick the landlord into gear.
