How to check oil level on BMW e60!?

Have a 520i and can't work out how to check the engine oil level..

It's a 04, and the manual states that the petrol models oil level has to be checked via idrive, and diesel models the traditional way ( dip stick)...

My idrive does not tell me the oil level, just that it needs replacing in x amount of miles, and this figure never changes..

Also just figured out I was given the wrong manual..it states it's for the 523i,525i etcbut not the 520i...

Have tried to check it with the Diipstick but it's sealed and can't be pulled out..

Any 520 owners here that can help? Cheers

It could be in a bit awkward place up against the firewall, some have it and some not.

Different car but same engine in the picture. Do you see a red dipstick handle to the right of the engine, like this? Is it just stuck?

Yep, it looks pretty much like that, but it's just stuck...

give it a good pull, i see this alot in work where people come in asking whats wrong, the bmw oil system creates a vacuum that makes it hard to pull out, just give it all your strength.

Are you trying to pull it out with the engine running?

there still be's a very strong suction long after the engine is switched off, in fact iv'e strained ligaments pulling them out before.

Also try giving it a twist before you pull it out, that normally works.

Also, twist it from side to side a bit.

If a vacuum is holding it in, would removing the oil cap for a few minutes help (car not running, of course)?

thanks for all the suggestions everybody, Ill have another go at it again later, it is really stuck hard though.

Just worried that infact it is sealed shut and only supposed to be checked via iDRIVE, any maybe there is a problem with my idrive? Just don't fancy forcing it out if its not supposed to come out(maybe thats why the cap is coloured red?)

Anyway, if anyone has a 520i e60, let us know what the situation with yours is..

Thanks again for all the help/suggestions.

If it's brightly coloured and has a ring/handle by which to pull it, then it's meant to be pulled. :D

You did well to hurt yourself to be fair - given the imaginary nature of your bmw.
