    Hi all

Looking at a used car, tax is out about 4 weeks back but that doesnt bother me. I wont be taxing it, need to get some bits of work done on it.

Can I declare it off road after ownership transfer or what has to be done ? It should be off maybe another month.

    Thanks

I don't think you have to do anything until its going back on the road.Maybe you might have to get it signed by a garda when you tax it for the time since you bought it to when you put it on the road.

When the car is ready to be driven then you sign a declaration at a garda station saying it's been off the road from x date - x date. Bring your logbook to show you only bought it etc and you won't be liable for any arrears pior to that date when it was driven and you won't have to pay for the arrears whilst you had it off the road as you have the declaration.

You dont have to do anything, but when its going back on the road you have to get a form stamped at the garda station from the time it changed into your name upto when its going on the road, then you tax it from then on. You don't have to go to the gardai but if you dont you will have to tax it from when it was changed into your name
