Gmail contacts - HTC Wildfire

Purchased my first Android device this morning, a HTC Wildfire. Very happy with it so far, except I can't figure out the best way to handle the contacts. I've been bogged down with duplicate - thanks to gmail syncing, SIM card contacts and phone contacts! What's the best way to set up my contacts...all I want is a phone number and an email address for each contact.

    Example:
    Name: A.N. Other
    Phone: 0861234567
    Email: a.n.other@something.com

I'm thinking of clearing the contacts in my phone off it completely and syncing my Gmail contacts to the phone, does this sound wise?! Thanks for any feedback.

Yeah same here, I organised them all on the PC and they automatically update on the phone.
If you use facebook too, make sure the names are spelled the same as they are on facebook and the email address are the same, and it'll pull their facebook pics for your contacts photos.

I setup a new google account purely just for my contacts. Then organised them at google.com/contacts , number, name, email and photo for each contact. Then setup the account on the phone to only sync contacts. Works great, keeps it very tidy.

I had tried syncing with my gmail but was getting hundreds of contacts with just email addresses. I know you can hide them in People but they were still showing up when selecting a recipient for an SMS.

Thanks people, have it sorted (pretty much!) now. The contacts thing was really bugging me, having all of my facebook contacts show up in the People app was driving me mad as well. It's much better now though!
