Toilet blocked & leaking

Upstairs toilet is blocked & water rises to top of bowl when flushed. I used plunger for a while to try clear.
After the water had sunk to normal level, I flushed again & it rose & stayed p at top of bowl.
I checked hot press (which is to the left of toilet) & the ground was wet.
I then went downstairs & there was a small dribble of water coming down kitchen wall.
I went out to hall & put ear to hall/kitchen wall. I could hear dripping which lasted bout 10 mins then stopped.
The pipe at back of toilet is enclosed by tiles. Would a plumber be able to take these off without cracking or would I have to try that myself?
Just wondering if this is an expensive job to fix?
    appreciate any advice
    thanks

Is there a inspection chamber outside where you can check for a blockage.....

The pipe to the sewer might be blocked. This can occur with excessive turd or/and toilet paper

Start by opening them all. You will either see the blockage or nothing.

When they are opening have your neighbour switch on the bathroom taps and kitchen taps and you will isolate which ones are his. Bear in mind the flow will be light so you will have to watch.

What i usually do is Fill up the sinks and add a colour to the water then let the sinks go and you will figure which ones are his/hers

I recon but you will spot the blockage with the shores up.

If you require rodding and are thinking of doing it yourself I suggest you buy the rods that lock together. There is lots of threads on this forum about lost rods in sewers.

It's not a blocked sewer , if it's your upstairs toilet there is no way it's a blocked sewer it would not reach your upstairs toilet level without overflowing your downstairs toilet first or your kitchen sink , I'd say be more aggressive with the plunger , the drip might be just a small leak from the pressure of the water on the multiwik when the toilet was full to the top it might not leak during normal use , but to put your mind at rest prob be a good idea to get a plumber to check it out , you mentioned that your in a duplex , if you have an apartment below you , you know for sure it's defo not a blocked sewer .

So would they have a downstairs loo ???????

By checking at the inspection chambers they will discover if the blockage is in their sewer, their neighbours sewer, or on the drop from their duplex.
They really need to give that a go because the next step isn't really going to be a nice clean DIY job.

The Bathroom toilet upstairs is the problem. Theres an ensuite which is working fine & a toilet downstairs in hall which is fine too.
Yes, theres an apartment below us.
I could try plunger again, just worried if I flush it may leak again.
BTW the leaking water into the hot press didnt smell of sewage at all (if thats any use)
Hot press dried out in a day so no harm giving it one final go with plunger before I try a plumber.

Ok we now know there is no prob with sewer , I wouldn't too much about leak until you get blockage cleared , when you are plunging the toilet make sure you flush the toilet first so that the bowl is full to the top of water as you are plunging , as it causes a bit of pressure on the blockage

What type of multiwick is in the back of the toilet? Chances are, the blockages are in there tbh....

I flushed then plunged for a good 15 mins, water went down very slowly, it leaked into hot press. Flushed and it filled again then after a few minutes there was a gurgle and the water flew down.
Flushed a 3rd time & everything was normal.
Hot press has dried out today & flushed a few times & no sign of leak.
Originally I was plunging with minimum water in bowl so the advice to fill the bowl up for extra pressure worked a treat.
First time doing all this hence the stupid questions.
    Thanks again for the help.

Now u need to figure out why it blocked:

My first suggestion is baby/facial wipes or 'ancillary appliances'

Whats the usage profile for the head in question?
