IADT SU Elections 2011

    Hey guys.

    Just to let you know the nominations for the SU Elections are open and will close on Tuesday evening at 5pm. Campaigning will begin on Wednesday morning at 9am. Hustings will take place outside the canteen on March 29th from 12-2 and polling day is March 31st outside the canteen!

    There are 6 roles - 3 full time paid/ 3 part time unpaid.

    (a) The President (FULL-TIME)
    Roles & Responsibilities:
    The President is the chief executive officer of the SU and is responsible for implementing Union mandates.
    All members of the SU are answerable to the President.
    The President chairs all Executive meetings.
    The President is the principal spokesperson of the SU.
    The President has overall responsibility for the co-ordination and delegation of all SU campaigns.
    The President cannot act as Secretary or Treasurer of any recognised club, society or committee of the SU.
    The President is responsible for presenting the audited accounts for the Union for the preceding financial year.
    The President has overall responsibility for the daily management of the SU areas including the management of the bar on appropriate occasions.
    The President is also required to produce an annual report outlining the previous year and ongoing issues that should be followed through on.



    (b) The Welfare Officer & Equality Officer/Deputy President (FULL TIME)
    Roles & Responsibilities:
    The Welfare officer is responsible for the provision of information and services to the students on an unbiased and confidential basis on issues relating to entitlements, rights, accommodation and issues of health and well being.
    The Welfare officer must oppose any organisation that promotes discrimination on the grounds of Gender, Marital Status, Family Status, Age, Race, Religion, Disability, Sexual Orientation and or membership of the Traveller community.
    The Welfare officer must organise a series of talks, seminars and workshops throughout college to ensure the dissemination of welfare/equality information to students.
    The Welfare officer must co-ordinate campaigns within the institute to raise awareness around the issue of discrimination, health and well-being.
    The Welfare officer is responsible for developing SU policy on equality, implementing existing policy and ensuring that such policy is adhered to in all aspects of Union Work.
    The Welfare officer is responsible for ensuring that SU publications do not infringe on the rights of any student and is responsible for exercising the responsibilities and duties of the office of President in his/her absence.

    (c) Education Officer/Deputy President (FULL TIME)
    Roles & Responsibilities:
    The Education officer must monitor course content and deal with student academic grievances.
    Provide information on educational issues to the membership.
    Take on management of Union Council with the aid of the President.
    Provide information and assistance with grants applications, etc.
    Be an ex-officio member of all education related committees.
    Aid in the development of educational policies.
    Provide information on further education and career information.
    Exercising the responsibilities and duties of the office of President in his/her absence.


    (d) The Clubs & Societies Officer
    Roles & Responsibilities:
    The Clubs & Socs officer must provide information to students on how to form clubs and societies and how to apply for funding.
    Monitor the spending of Clubs and Societies in conjunction with the President and give expenditure reports to the Executive Committee.
    The Clubs and Societies officer may not hold any executive positions in any club or society.
    The Clubs and Societies officer must carry out any other duties as requested of them by the President.
    Have special responsibility for liaising with the appropriate funding body and clubs.
    The Clubs and Societies officer shall be responsible for the co-ordination of the annual awards night.
    The Clubs and Societies officer shall be responsible for the co-ordination of the registration day.

    (e) The Communications Officer
    Roles & Responsibilities:
    The Communications Officer has overall responsibility for the production and distribution of all union publications to keep the student body informed.
    The Communications Officer is responsible for developing and chairing an editorial group for the Union newspaper/magazine
    The Communications Officer is responsible for ensuring all Union publications do not infringe on the rights of any section of the Student body
    The Communications Officer should co-operate with the Deputy President/Welfare and Equality Officer to ensure any Union publications do not infringe the rights of any students.
    The Communications Officer may request a budget to outsource the design and printing of the publication to ensure quality.

    (f) The Entertainments Officer
    Roles & Responsibilities:
    The Ents officer is responsible for the planning, organisation and co-ordination of all Union social functions with a pre-determined budget which must include a social function at least one evening per week on campus, at least 6 off campus socials per year and two separate full weeks of entertainment throughout the year.
    The prep of budgets for each event must be approved by the Executive committee.
    The Ents officer has the right to establish Entertainments committees and appoint entertainments crews where he/she deems appropriate
    In conjunction with the President the Ents Officer will co-operate in the running of the Student Centre (The Chapel & The Bar) when being used for specifically organised SU social events.

    YAY! SU....

    My Campaign shall be

    "Vote For an Education officer!"

    It doesn't matter which one!
    We'd all be pretty good at the job!

    Though, if you don't know which one err in favour of the blonde!"

    It needs a bit of work tho'...
