Got into it a bit when Becks moved to Galaxy, kinda wasn't arsed, though.
Probably pick New England Revolution as my team in it, considering I follow the other Boston teams in NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL.

    Sounders fan here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,472 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I enjoy watching Sounders games. I'm not a fan or anything but I watched well over half their games over the last 2 seasons since they were the new guys. They've got great fans and I thought they were very unlucky last night. They really should have been winning by 1 or 2 goals before NY scored.

The chances are there for them, they just have to start converting them.

The little bro had a week at kansas city wizards (now sporting kansas iirc) last september which apparently went very well but alas nothing has come of it so my MLS interest quickly evaporated

is there many irish lads plying their trade over there?

Caleb Folan just signed for Colorado Rapids.

Last year was my first year properly following the league, Philadelphia Union fan here. Poor quality league but a bit of fun. Danny Mwanga is my favourite player. Young but quick and very skillful.

have to decide if im gonna follow a team over here or not. obviously toronto would be the most logical choice, but theyre a hockey loving crowd over here to be honest. the crowd at the sounders match last week was brilliant, so thinking maybe ill give them the nod as the team i look out for first. how arbitrary can you get eh?

    lol

I decided I'm going to try follow the MLS this season.

I was looking at the teams over the weekend and I'm going to throw my lot in with the Portland Timbers. I remember attending a NASL game when I was younger - Ft. Lauderdale Strikers V Portland Timbers. The Strikers won 6-2, but as they aren't in the MLS, I'm going with the Timbers.

They are an expansion team too, so should be fun to see how they develop. I'm not expecting to be celebrating any trophies anytime soon though!

From my limited MLS knowledge the Toronto FC fans are some of the best fans in the league and are very colourful

I usually pick Boston based teams to follow as I have friends and some distant relations in Cape Cod so I'll go with the New England Revolution.

I hope the MLS actually gets to a decent standard. Might bring some substance to the Club World Cup.

Well they're not gonna give someone like Barca much of a challenge in fairness.

watched their game at the weekend and bloody hell theyve got the worst crowd ive ever seen. empty seats all over the gaff, and when they scored you could hear individual clapping

    it was pathetic

should have been about 50-2 on aggerate man

Any team that has Caleb Folan up front get's my support! Colorado Rapids is where it's at.
Big lump of uselessness...but got us a point in Italy by a ball breaking off his arse to fall to Robbie for the 1-1.

Really man? How do you figure that man? Some kind of points system for touching the ball man?

Promised myself I'd branch out and give the MLS a chance this time around. Caught a few games last year and that's about it really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,889 ✭✭✭Third_Echelon

I've been following the MLS since it kicked off in the mid-90s. I was lucky enough to get to the World Cup in USA '94, so that kinda kicked off my interest. Got to see ireland in Giants Stadium. Their league started a year or two later. I returned to New York for my J1 in 2001 and went to a good few NY Metrostars games. Been back in the US working etc over the past 4 years and went to see NY Redbulls again /// they'll always be the Metrostars to me ;-)

People don't give the league enough kudos i think. Definitely not the best quality league in the world, that is for sure, but it's entertaining and most teams are in and around the same ability level, which keeps things interesting. Great to see it expanding over the past few seasons with new teams.

Was disappointed with the standard of football when I started watching the MLS(last year) and some of the commentating is godawful, but the matches are entertaining enough especially when you get into it. Haven't really gotten much of an affiliation with any of the teams yet but the teams I like are San Jose Earthquakes(with a name like that who could dislike them?) and New England Revolution.
