Hi lads. I am buying a new truck for our business and have been looking at various models.

Whats your thinking on any of the above. The Scania seems to offer a impresive engine range with a 730HP engine available.

Right first things first what the hell business are you in that you would need a 700bhp Scania
My father has a haulage company we specialise in delivering fish to the continent, since 1998 we havnt had a scania mainly due to drivers comfort
The Scania cab isnt anywhere near the spec allowed by the Volvos or Dafs
We have one 01 MAN TGA XXL 48OBHP and honestly we think its one of the best trucks we have ever had,the Renault magnum is another good option
But with all this in mind its hard to beat a Scania for power and realiability

I wont be needing 700HP only I was amazed that power was availabe.

We have a building supplies biz and we currently have 2 truck a 99 Volvo FL which is a great truck and we have a 06 Daf which always has to be in the garage.

I thought the Daf would last years but its less reliable than the Volvo now..

I think the 700 range are industrial only. Long haul would be the R-series, with the R620 at the top.
Last time I looked at the Euro 5 engines, the R480 was the best all rounder of the 6 cylinder ones, and the R560 the best all rounder of the 8 cylinders.
By all rounder, I was looking at the torque and bhp graph, and economy. Those two offer the most useable power for longest at regular speeds.

If you are happy with Volvo, then the FM / FH range (340 to 460hp)are very reliable, especially version 1 up to 2001. You have not stated wheither you require ridgid or artic, or what axle combinations.

After many years in haulage all I can say are Daf trucks from 1986 to date are rubbish, Daf Ireland are rubbish as is the service from them, your heart will be broken as well as ur bank trust me.
, costs are unbelievable and resale value nil.

i've had a MAN for 5 years now and its a faultless bit of kit as for the daf any look on Donedeal or Autotrader will tell you their resale value is definatly not nil so i'm not too sure how much sense the rest of the above comment makes! also worth looking into the adblue or not options...
