Good Facial Scrub/Exfoliator?

I'm looking for a good facial scrub/exfoliator and something that is reasonably priced as well, somewhere under €15. I have normal/combination skin and I'm 17.

Would anyone be able to reccommend anything, preferably something that doesn't come in a tiny bottle cause I find it infuriating how it disappears so quickly and I don't want to have to replace it a lot!

    Thanks :)

I love the St. Ives Apricot Scrub.

Something like clean and clear my johnson and johnsons

Neutrogena facial scrub. (the grapefruit one...smells divine!!)

The bottles are decent sized and they last for ages, I put a tiny dot on my hand and rub, rub, rub. Love the feeling after washing it off! :D

This is one of the nicest scrubs I've used http://www.renskincare.com/p/3075/Jojoba+Microbead+Invigorating+Facial+Polish. They have it in Arnotts, it's a bit more expensive than the norm but you only need a tiny bit and it lasts for ages.

    Thanks guys.
A couple of friends have said the Neutrogena and the Simple ones are good so I'm considering going for one of them if I don't find any other ones!

But I have a question sqeakyduck (and/or whoever else uses the neutrogena one!) does it dry out your skin a lot? Because I've heard that some scrubs strip your skin of its natural oils and it isn't good for it at all.

I don't find it does. They will all take oil from the face and take off bits of dead skin, I find it refreshing, the clean and clear more so than the neutrogena. But I do like to put a nice dollop of moisturizer on my face if I am feeling a little dry

Thanks! Heading into Boots today, still undecided about which one to get ha but I'll definitely get one of the ones people have reccommended.

I use this too ! the one that says Invigorating , not the one for blemish prone skin (invigorating one has more exfoliator bits in it)..

I use it every other day so i dont dry out my skin, and use a good moisturiser :)

Another vote for the St Ives one. Other exfoliators feel nothing compared to it. It scrubs the crap out of you! :D

The best exfoliator I have used is porridge oats, dampen skin and exfoliate with uncooked porridge oats. Leaves skin really soft.

Actually Alphatango, my sister had pretty bad acne when she was younger and the dermatologist told her to use porridge oats as a scrub/mask to calm the inflamation. She's carried on using it ever since and she has the most beautiful skin-strangers have complimented her skin(which kinda freaks her out as she's a really shy person lol)

+1 on St Ives Apricot scrub, its fantastic. My OH has started to rob it on me :p If i run out i make up a scrub using sugar and oil, use as little oil as you can to make the mix wet and apply to wet skin, rinse after with warm water. Just as good as any commercial scrubs, but no nice smells :(

The St Ives scrub has really good scrubby bits in it but my god the smell of it is absolutely rank - its like putting air freshener on your face in the morning - so unpleasant!!

the nip and fab one I got it last week and really like it or the loreal one in the blue bottle (cannot remember the proper name). I love the dermalogica ones the daily skin resurfacer but its pricey

St Ives - or if you're old school, the Aapri range.

I don't like the ones with microbeads etc - they don't feel "scrubby" enough

+1 to St Ives Apricot Scrub, must get some more of that actually.

The Simple exfoliator in the green tube is also good. Not too harsh, and smells neutral, so good if you have kinda sensitive skin.

I tried this tonight and I have to say my skin feels much softer. My chin and nose aren't are oily as they usually are when I use a shop-bought scrub/facial wash/soap.

Just one question - I didn't soak the porridge oats in anything, I put some in a bowl and when my face was damp, I scooped the oats into my hand and put them on my face, are the oats meant to be soaked in anything? I can't use olive oil (or anything with oil).

My sister would make an oat paste with just water, same way you would soak the oats to make porridge, you can also use the strained water as a skin tonic after, fantastic for oily or sensitive skin types.

Definitely St. Ive's Apricot Scrub! You'll find it in most chemists and it's not too expensive. Using it twice a week really made a big difference for me!

Hi purplebobbin, I do not soak the porridge oats before using them as an exfoliator, I just wet skin, and if it is not wet enough I add a few drops of water to the oats. However, it may be gentler on the skin to soak the oats in water for a few minutes before exfoliating, as explained by Shinikins, if you have sensitive skin.

Thank you very much, I'll try soaking the oats next time :)

I use the st ives for my body (or boots own brand scrub if i cant get st.ives) and for my face its soap & Glory Hot cloth pore cleanser (2-3 times a week) and They have a lovely face wash too but I cant remember the name of it.

I find if you use a hot dap facecloth with your cream cleanser, you open the pores, soften the dead skin and then scuff it away using the cloth, all very fast and great for sensitive skin...no need to buy a separate exfoliator:D

You should try the new clean start range from dermalogica. It's for teenage skin. They do a really good scrub called ready steady scrub. Its retails at about €19. There products are brilliant and really look after your skin. If you have any spots though don't use a scrub with grains as the grains will only tear the spots. USe a clay based leave on exfoliant if you have any breakouts. The grains are good for dry skin though..
