I had a bit of a sleep in this morning until ten o clock. I got up, put the kettle on went up stairs, took the 223 out of the gun cabinet & brought it down stairs with me. I was making a cup of tea looking out the window, when the phone rang. It was the father in law who lives about 7 miles away to tell me a mink had killed all his ducks last night & would i set a trap or 2 later on today. Then while still looking out the kitchen window, out of the corner of my eye spotted down the field a fox hunting along a ditch "quick! i will ring you back to the father in law" Grabbed the 223, pulled one round from the stock holder, loaded it in from the top. The heart was racing out i went on to the deck at the back of the house, but the fox had gone in to some cover. Down to the bottom of the garden and i spotted him again, he was in a bit of a hurry moving in and out of view. I gave a whistle and he stopped and looked around. Bang! he tumbled, ran, and tumbled again. I found him 25 yrds from where i shot him. On inspection
it was a direct hit in the engine room. Now i must go and see if i can sort out this mink
