Suggest a build.

Well guys. it must be 4 or 5 years since i built my own last PC which is still plugging away like a demon. But I am out of touch with the latest gear.

my son was going to buy an Alienware Laptop for College and a bit of gaming in his free time.
Now he feels that he would be better off building a pc and he will also want to buy a steering wheel setup later on ( I think this is around €300 )
Anyhow. He is reckoning on spending around €700 on the pc. he has an old one that he put into a new case a year ago and never used it as he was an xbox addict

This case will do him perfectly. as will his dvd/rw

Anything else?

Note that that is a mATX motherboard, the only 1155 socket board in stock and the cheapest one.
If you fancy an ATX motherboard, you could squeeze a little more money by leaving out the heatsink.

Another alternative is to go down the AMD route which is cheaper. Although not as strong in the processing department, if gaming is the primary focus then graphics card is the most important.

That looks quite interesting.
Would it be too much to ask of you to spec an AMD system as I am a but of an AMD lover myself.
Price looks around about right..could go an extra few euro if needs be

No problem. Here's a 6 core AMD build. Changed the ram as the geil was a bit cheaper but should be pretty much the same.




+ Delivery €30.

You could easily save money on the motherboard, but I thought that I would pick one with plenty of features. I went with an AMD card too. The 6950 should have a slight lead on the 560, especially at high resolutions with the 2GB version.

I also like Mushkin ram as this is what i have in my own 5 yr. old machine and I feel this si what is standing to it

8GB of RAM?
That completely unnecessary 4GB is still more than enough even for todays standards so 8GB of Ram would really benifit you

He will be using this for photoshop among other editing software and as we know, Photoshop LOVES ram

8GB is a lot as IMH says.

That mushkin ram would be fine. Or the corsair (although a little but probably not noticeably slower) Here's 8GB of the geil for €76.

The enterprise drives usually have longer warranties and designed with RAID in mind. Actual performance is probably about the same.

Did someone say they accept paypal once it is through Credit card?

How long is delivery time with them?

Yeah they take paypal, but they charge 3%. So that would be about €20 in this case. If you have online banking the bank transfer is convenient, not so much if you don't.

I had a look on scan.co.uk, but even with the 3%, it's still cheaper with HWV.

Most people seem to get deliveries in 1-2 weeks.
