Car vandalised - Advice on insurance?

Some junkie scumbag destroyed my car during last weekend, apparently he mistook my car for a car belonging to somebody else so he decided that he had to smash all my windows and leave parts of the body looking like they've been through a warzone...pr!ck!

Anyway the gardai are dealing with said scumbag, my problem now is having the car repaired, specifically the windows.
I'm insured for TPF&T and also have windscreen cover. I know the insurance won't cover the damage to the body but as I understood it, windscreen cover covered all the windows? Got quoted 1645e for just the windows (does that sound right?) and was then informed by QD that they will only cover 500 towards this.
1145e is no small amount of money especially considering I'm a student with SFA money.
Am I screwed or is there anything I can do to persuade QD to cover the remainder of the cost?

Get the parts/windows from a breakers yard for much cheaper and bring the scummer to court

500 limit sounds about normal alright for insurance..

I don't think they cover the door window.. check you insurance policy

I think you just said it yourself, windscreen is only the front glass, doubt they cover the rest of the windows.

Scrap yards will sell the glass at about €40 a peice. Do you have any mates or even yourself that could fit it ?

I mean €40 for drivers/passengers doors.. not rear or front. No idea what the cost of that is.

What kind of car is it and how old is it? It mightn't be worth fixing it if the body is damaged too.

Make sure that the Garda dealing with it knows how much getting the windows fixed, getting the bodywork done, and storage until the car is secure is costing you. Also make sure that it isn't covered by your insurance.

The Garda may be able to exert a little pressure on the guy to sort you out or, if the guy is prosecutes, he may be able to tell the judge how much it has cost you so that the judge can force the guy to compensate you (even though this could take forever).

If the guy sees you right before a court date, the court may go easier on him, which should be pointed out to him for your sake.

Best of luck getting it sorted.

I asked the garda dealing with the guy about having him pay for the damage. He gave me the impression that this could be a lot more hassle than what it's worth. :( Thankfully atm I don't have to pay (don't think I do anyway) for storage, the night it happened the gards had the car towed to the back of the local station and said I could leave it there for the time being. TBH I'd be reasonably happy just to see guy locked behind bars.

@ lau1247 & shblob.. Checked with Quinn about what it covers during the week, they said it covers all the glass on the car except sunroofs. They did however fail to tell me that they won't cover the cost of all the glass at once :(

@ RoverJames.. It's a 2001 Passat SE. Apart from the damage to the windows & frames I seem to have gotten away with any major damage to the rest of the car except for the boot lid and wing mirrors.

@ NeVer.. Thanks for the link. :) I'm living in Cork but travel to Dublin a lot. Going to give those guys a ring tomorrow and see if I can get a better deal than down here.

Thanks again for the info lads, might not be off the road for as long as I was thinking now :D
