Double Din DVD Sat Nav

Yeah, I had something similar in my manta till recently. It was a no name single din with a 7" full size screen and had all the features like :

Bluetooth - never worked from new

Tv tuner - Got the sound of the news at 6 once but no picture. Never got any more after that

Radio - Tuner was crap. Had trouble picking up stations and wouldnt hold them when moving

GPS - Worked ok'ish. Not the easiest interface to use tho.

Ipod - Supposed to play ipod/iphone music via rear lead connector. Never worked !

USB - Played songs ok tho slow to load up. Finally quit working after about a year's use

DVD - Again, worked ok but failed at the same time as the usb gave up.

To sum up, cheap all in one chinese stereos seem like good value and indeed seem to be reasonable...until the problems start that is. For what it's worth, in my case I suspect it was corrupt software that finally made the unit unusable.

I recently got a pioneer unit with all the same features(less gps) for not that much more than I paid for the chinese unit.

My advice would be to spend a bit more and get a good brand name if you can afford it

Had the vw one myself and as last poster said they're cheap Chinese units and don't last too long. I did however get most things working but it was very hard to use. DVD player gave the ghost not long after and I still haven't been able to fix it.

My advice would be to find a cheap oem mfd3 if it's a vw you have, the quality is 1000% better.

    interesting thread.

my car (a second hand japanese import) came into ireland with a very similar 'non brand name' headunit to the second one posted above.

    the TV tuner is ****
    the FM tuner is ****
the SD card slot doesn't work
the sat nav doesn't work, although if it did i asume it would be mapped for Japan

The CD player works ok, and it plays data CD's which is a bonus, i only ever really listen to CD's anyway so all is not lost :)

you all have me a little worried now that one day it may just give up the ghost :(

but hey, chicks dig double dins :P

I picked one up about 18 months ago for the van thats very good. (sindle din with 5" screen)
Are the people above using a proper (seperate) tv ariel for the tv ? Cos they neeed one or you wont get anything. I picked up a twin, powered ariel off ebay for about €15-20 and get decent reception in Dublin.

the screen can be a touch tempremental. Its got a motorised angle adjustment and sometimes flickers but if you push the frame a bit it makes proper contact.
Bluetooth works great for calls and music. Though when I had an iphone (3gs) the music was horrible and crackly. Since I changed to a Desire HD, the quality is much better.

For under €200 it's hard to argue when the functions all work, like on mine.I didnt get one with satnav though.

I had a single din one, sounds like guys one, no bothers with it. Bluetooth worked, no problem with reception, had it hooked up to a hard drive which was cool!

I just bought and fitted a http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320643510610 to my wifes car.

    Really can't fault it.

I upgraded the GPS maps on the supplied SD card. as the Ireland map was 2008.

Radio is good, GPS is excellent, bluetooth and music streaming works well (although I have yet to work out how to transfer my wifes Android contacts to the phone book).

    DVDs play great.

Haven't used the TV and probably never will so can't comment on that.

Unit took just 3 working days to arrive and for for 180 sterling including postage it was a bargain.

I like quality sounds and it didn't dissapoint.

Can't comment on longevity as I've only had it a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all info everyone. Its going to be fitted into a 2005 golf but I wont have it until late next week. I'm very tempted but the feed back by others here is putting off. I have a bit of time to think about it I'll have a look at the MFD3 etc

    thanks again

Ive played around with and repaired dvd drives in a few of these , not worth your time if you plan to use anything except navigation (if you use garmin XT or tomtom mobile for the CE based ones) , ipod or usb for your music, the radio and TV tuners are woeful , your better off even getting a second hand kenwood or pioneer unit , far far better

Think I'll go with a brand name after all the feedback. Can someone recommend a sat nav dvd with blue tooth for €350 ish or am I asking too much. Dont mind a second hand units either.

i got my pioneer from the states. it was a fully reconed unit.. think i paid 300 euro delivered. only problem is the radio dose not pick up all the stations and the maps had to be changed from states to europe
