Ladies what do you use to shave down below?

For those of you who don't wax, do you use normal shaving gel or maybe veet or something? Some of the hair removal patches say not to be used around the genitals. Serious question, I'm looking to buy some.

I use shaving gel and aftershave balm after. Waxing scares the life out of me so it's the best thing I can come up with. Hair conditioner is meant to be good to shave with too.

Veet for sensitive skin, but you have to be super careful on the undercarriage, so to speak. Find I get too much irritation from shaving.

Can I ask something? Everyone keeps talking about how they shave... I tried it once or twice and oh dear jesus the itch after a couple of days, the stubble after only a day or two and the ingrown hairs. It put me off for life.

I was always afraid of waxing and then took a notion one day, made an appointment and went and got it done. Was amazing. Really doesn't hurt that much, no stubble, no itch when it starts to regrow and you get weeks out of it. The problem now is that money is just too tight at the moment to be paying €60 in Brazilia every month. I appreciate they do amazing work but €60 for 15minutes is too hard to justify at the moment.

It's looking like I might have to go back to shaving as much as the thought is putting me off, any suggestions? Was I just doing it completely wrong the few times I tried. I can't imagine so many people putting up with those complaints, so I must be?

When I'm not getting waxed I prefer using my Epilator. I know some women who think they hurt like hell but I find them brilliant and the hair doesn't grow back as quick as shaving and there's no stubble left behind.

I like to put cooling gel on afterwards and it feels great. I had a Remington one to start with but I found it never cached the finer hairs, I have a Philips one now that I love :D

Is the Epilator not really awkward to use??

I use a bikini trimmer that I bought in Argos. You don't get a really close cut with it though, so sometimes I have to shave a bit extra myself. Normally get waxed if I'm going on holidays though. Oh the fun of letting it grow for a while, about 5 mins in my case!

Blue_Light, it really only itches the first couple of times you do it.

Word of advice for those of you who do shave. An antiseptic cream like germaloine or Neosporin (if you can get it), is the best to shave with. Just the right consistency & will stop pimples & ingrown hair infections after.

Goes without saying a proper close trim & exfoliation before shaving.

 DO NOT PUT AN EPILATOR DOWN THERE!

I spent about 2 hours crying while trying to do my bikini line and half of that was trying to get my self in the zone to put it to my skin again. I had to have it fixed up in a salon.

Veet cream is good, but its been said be careful with the undercarrige and time it carefully.

Wilkonsin Sword Intuition razors are very good and kind for the bikini area. They look like there is a bar of soap onto them.

I don't shave at all. So I don't worry about any of these. Being jungle also gives me comfort. :D

Nope I never had a problem with it :D

Hey OP don't diss something until you try it, just because it doesn't work for others doesn't mean it wont work for you.

Shop around for different things :)

I just got a reccomendation for Cathy at affordablebeauty4u.ie

Half the price for a wax so I think I'll give her a go...I think I'm just a wax junkie at this stage. Although I think I'll give shaving one last shot after this wax, zero euro is even better than half price after all :)

WOW... can't believe I posted in this thread, I'm male & don't shave down there (trim only). Really shouldn't post after drinking !!

But as it happens, the advise is good, was given to me by someone I know in the US (again while drunk strangely). Hands up who googled to find out what neosporin was ??

    :)

I was totally put off waxing after the first time I got it done - basically ended up with two giant bruises! Hate veet, used the one for sensitive skin on my legs once, and after a few minutes it broke the skin. Ugh.

    Tough topic.
I used the epilator for a while but it is just so painful. And no it does not get better with time. At least not for me. Epilators are generally a big fail for me. They don't get my legs clean enough at all and take forever. And they are just bloody painful in the armpit and bikini region. Useless!
If you don't react to depilatory cream, I'd say that's the best option as it's painless and will last you a couple of days and the re-grow does not itch. Try a couple of different brands if you have had a bad experience with one, but try a not so sensitive area first, like your legs.
I have not had good experiences with shaving. Every time I tried it was awful. It first looks really nice, but the day after is painful because of the very stubbly re-growth. I have tried different shaving foams and conditioner but always end up with red bumps and itchiness only a couple of hours later.
I have never tried waxing, not so much because of the potential pain, but rather I do not like some stranger messing around with stuff down there and then it's just ridiculously expensive. I'm too stingy for this.

That's pretty fcuking sick... and notice how nobody thanked your post to agree with you.

Germanicgalore can you recommend a depilatory cream? I don't even know what that is.

    I'll thank her.
Jeez - whatever way the woman wants to keep her bits is her business, not yours.

Not everyone wants their partner to look pre-pubescent.

Pretty overdramatic reaction. Each to their own like, it's far from sick to leave things natural (probably sicker to go for all off, in fairness). On the other hand, no idea what the post was supposed to contribute to this thread.

Veet is a depilatory cream - it just means a hair removal cream, but I'm not sure what other brands are out there. Boots might have an own brand?

I'd use Veet on the Bikini line, nowhere else though, but TBH its such a pain waiting for it to work, so i shave. Aldi razors, no different to any other brand except the price, but a fresh on every time, and lots of conditioner. Never get ingrown hairs, probably because i exfoliate, but i sometimes get shaving bumps, mostly on the knicker line. Sudocreme or Germolene works wonders for that though. Wax my legs myself using sugar wax, and shave the underarms.

As mentioned earlier "depilatory" cream is just hair removal. Sorry for using a silly word.
Anyway, yes, Veet do one, Boots own brand do one (that one is pretty bad IMHO) and then there's a couple more. Just have a browse through Boots. It's difficult to recommend those things, as it's to do with personal tolerance and some people are just more sensitive than others.

I use the Veet sensitive one, and then use a non-scented moisturising cream aftewards.
That seems to work pretty well for me.

It depends on the thickness of your hair how long these creams take. I usually put it on right before having a shower. While I "wait" I also brush my teeth, floss my teeth, pluck my eyebrows or any other beauty/hygene thing I can come up with. For me it takes around five minutes. Be diligent about not over-extending the recommended time. If you are not happy with the result after that time, go back the next day for a touch up rather than leaving it too long at any one time.
I remove the cream in the shower. I think it works pretty well. I do it once a week. Typically at the weekend.

However, as I said, it's a very personal choice. You need to experiment a bit to find what option you are most comfortable with.

Do NOT use conditioner!! Total myth about it being as good as shaving cream... it is not, I learned the hard way!!

Waxing IS as sore as people make it out to be but there are a few tips of the trade to make it more comfortable and i think essentially the pain is worth is for how long you stay hairless.

Hair removal cream/shaving is a quick fix and only stays smooth a cpl of days!

0verblood, reactions like that are not welcome in F&A. You are looking down on someone's PERSONAL PREFERENCE?

Everyone else, can we please stay on topic.

When I'm not 'being jungle' ;) I use a Remington bikini trimmer. A small version of a mens hair clipper really with a guard that leaves the hair as long or as short as you want it. I think it was about a tenner in Asda. I can't find a dignified way to stand up and do it though so I have to lock myself away!

Well if it's her business and nobody elses, why did she announce it to everybody? I just thought the imagery was a bit sick - she described it as a jungle.

Right I think that veet shower stuff is what I'll get. By the way I'm a guy, and it's not for me.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned laser hair removal yet.
A friend of mine got it done ...as a wedding present for her husband ;)
I think it's a great idea, and am thinking about getting it done. Does anyone here have any experience with that?
