    Hi all,

my friend re-install windows xp from CD included to laptop and complained that he cant change anything and once he prepare his desktop and reset XP it goes back to layout it was.

It looks like computer was in the corporate network and profile has been block by admin.

But this is home laptop and never ever was use as a part of network.

I scan it with several antivirus programs but no luck.

It checked on profiles and it says LOCAL.

Any ideas I would be grateful.

    Thanks

I'm not sure exactly what the circumstances are here, but the most likely issue is that the laptop has been locked down by a corporate admin. It's probably not bound to a domain, but there are a whole bunch of group policies you can set locally to restrict changes that a user can make.

It sounds like your friend either had a pretty unusual installation CD for the reinstall he did, or he didn't actually reinstall the OS.

Best bet would be to wipe the machine and start from scratch, IMO.

It sounds like hes doing a restore rather than reinstall.

It looks like that something like norton ghost recovery is doing config restore or something

Yes it looks like done by GPO, but again this laptop is personal use only , never has been part of any network.

That's why I thought it could be virus, but not.

Is it possible that it can be version of XP ?

In other hand this version is orginal and delivered with laptop.

The first thing to check is whether she's actually formatted the drive or not.

The second thing to check is what installation media she's using. I can't imagine it's a normal OEM/retail disc, if it's leading to this kind of problem after a fresh install.
