Laptop hard drive question

I have a Dell Studio 17 laptop. I have a question about the hard drive. The specs say I have:
    640GB (5.400rpm) Serial ATA Dual Hard Drive (2x 320GB)

Does this mean I have two hard drives or is it simply one HDD with two partitions? I ask because I think the best way to have a hard drive is about 100GB for the C drive with the OS on it and the rest of the space as a D drive. The D drive would be for storage of files. Am I correct?

I'd guess there's a clue in the name : Dual Hard Drive

but check the Disk Management part of MyComputer->rightclick->Manage
