If anyone says it you are entitled to hit them, all the Americans posting up their Patty's day videos, flame them. The world must know how to spell it properly!

    Help me in my mission!

If you think about it though, Patty is technically correct

    no it is not

Patty is a woman's name! Or a lump of mincemeat, breadcrumbs, etc. held together with egg for the purpose of frying!

St Patricia's Day now, is it? Or not-yet-cooked hamburger day?

People not knowing how Patrick is abbreviated.

Patty comes from idiots thinking they are right by shortening Patrick instead of Padraig! Then you see them arguing on youtube thinking they are right!! Comical!

A lot of restaurants and pubs serve corned beef and cabbage as a traditional Irish meal on St. Patricks day - wtf?!

In most American accents you can't hear a difference between 'Paddy' and 'Patty'.

Watching Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where the guys run a bar called Paddy's Pub, I noticed that their pronunciation of Paddy is identical to Patty.

Anyway, St Patrick's Day is really an American celebration of Ireland. The idea of having a good time on the day is relatively recent in Ireland.

Then it should be Páidí. Your bastardised English version is a disgrace to ireland.

Patty is an appropriate nickname form of Patrick.

I think they should stick with St. Patrick's Day. They don't really know him well enough to be able to call him Paddy or Patty.

    What about St Patsy's day?

I've never once ever heard an Irish person refer to someone called Patrick as Patty, its wrong, deal with it.

I had to explain to an American girl that calling it Paddy's Day wasnt a bad thing, she thought it mean Paddys as in the insult for Irish people, not Paddy's as in Patrick's Day

That would explain why so many Irish guys are nicknamed Patty I guess.

Ham/Bacon was too expensive in New York, Chicago, Boston etc so they took the advice of their neighbours and tried out some corned beef. So, for the Irish in America, corned beef became the traditional dish, not bacon.

Enda Kenny has been informed of your suggestion. After meeting President Obama a press conference has been called in which this terrible misunderstanding will be cleared up once and for all. From hence forth this day shall be known internationally as Packie's Day. Any dissenters shall receive that version of the bumbs where their head bangs off the ground.

    Happy Packie's Day OP!

    Hey guys!

I'm not Irish technically but I once met a man who's grandad's cousin knew someone who went to Cork, so when you think about it, I'm Irish too.

I'd just like to say a big Happy Patty's Day to all my fellow Irish friends :D

I'd say Irish accents ahve something to do with it. Hearing it as Patty is just embarassing; it's great other peopel are celebrating an Irish holiday but if they can't get the basics right then they shouldn't bother.

I've an asian friend and she spent last 4 years in America and she keeps calling it Patty's day. It drives me nuts. She won't listen when I say it's Paddy, ends up calling it Patty again later.
