Opel Meriva - Help

Looking for some advice, we have an Opel Meriva, I know I know... Anyhows, we got a big job done in November, new head gasket. The mechanic said to make sure the oil and water are checked and topped up regularly, which we do. But in the last 2 weeks or so, I've noticed the oil cap has a dark yellow goo like substance on it, like congealed oil say. Plus, if the car goes to 110km/hr or more it keeps shuddering. Anyone any advice or reccommendations about where to take it that wont cost an arm and a leg. The HG cost us 1400euro and I just dont have that kind of money again, we're in Greystones. Thanks, Im clueless - obviously :)

Did your mechanic give a warranty with the work??. The gunk could be condensation due to short journeys but you mention doing 110 kph so I think that would rule that out.

Take it back to the bloke who didn't fix it properly. You paid him €1400 for a good repair and you clearly didn't get value.

When he did it he said to us after that he "couldn't stand over the head gasket", and that was it. Feel like such a gobs**te for going to him now but nothin i can do - dont want to go back to him because he's obviously too expensive

He charged you €1,400 and "couldn't stand over the head gasket"? Tbh, that's bullsh!t. If your head gasket transpires to have failed again, you should definitely complain.

The 'mayonnaise', as it's called, could be evidence of a possible coolant leak into the engine caused by failure of the head gasket. It could also be, as stated above, simple condensation caused by short journeys.

The shuddering at 100 km/h+ could well be caused by one or both of the front wheels being unbalanced. It would be worth your while getting them balanced. Any tyre place should do this cheaply for you.

Has the coolant level dropped? Have you noticed the temperature gauge rising above normal?

Ill get the coolant level checked and I dont think the temp gauge has risen, not sure though. And someone else had mentioned getting the tyres balanced so will do this asap. We would do decent enogh journey's in the car each week so I dont think it would be because of short journeys. I definitely think I will give the mechanic a ring and see if he's willing to look at the car f.o.c given that we have paid such a high amount for a job not 6 months ago - all I can do is try, at this stage pride goes out the window!
