house previously a knocking shop

We found out that the woman who lived here before us, who we had gardaí and court summons looking for, was a prostitute. The landlord let us know about this as we were signing our lease for the second year. That explains why the two double beds are broken, and we wont even stop to think about the mattresses. The landlord also told us the hole in the floor in the corner of our bedroom under the carpet is where she used to hide the money.

As far as I'm concerned, mattresses are never clean anyway, every time you rent a new place with mattress included you take risks, and what can be deposited on mattresses can't be caught.

How would you feel if you found out that your house, and most importantly your bed used to be part of a knocking shop? I don't really care, to be honest, just glad that we never had people calling round looking for her when we first moved in!!

You dont mind sleeping on that mattress after all the action it has had. First thing i would be doing is getting the beds and mattresses replaced.
How are the walls? I would probably demand they be repainted too with paint this time.

The house was redecorated before we moved in. I reckon the mattresses can't be any worse than the many older mattresses I slept on in rented flats and bedsits over the years! It's hard to get our landlord to do anyting, never mind replace beds, and we've been here a year already unaware of what was happening here before, so if there was anything to be caught, we've caught it. It's not possible through a mattress anyway. We just decided not to think about it, same way as I didn't think much about it in every rented accommodation I've had!

It adds some glamour to our home, it's great to hear the stories from the landlord and he was most amused to hear that the police are looking for her too!

He didn't remove the old cum-stained mattresses, and kept schtum about the sordid activities....until rumbled, and you signed a new lease?

I would have packed my bags...

    *Yes it can.
*The country is awash with cheap rentals.
*Drunk people are going to turn up on your doorstep with cash late at night.
*The landlord definitely knew before you told him.

The house is too cheap and too good to give up, and also, it's only heresay, but heresay with too many hints.

We love the house, we like the rent, we like our landlord, and do you actually know how many people have slept on those mattresses in flats and bedsits all over Dublin before you? We think it's funny, and just block our minds and "lalalalalala" to the mattresses. You kind of have to, when you rent.

We've been here a year, and none of the above. Apart from the landlord, but we hide the budgies and the cat from him, he's very adamant we have no pets, so I wont try to agrue what he kept from us.

You like the place and the rent...I hear ya. But the actions of the landlord would leave a bitter taste in my mouth (wahaay). I'm assuming he knew of the hooker? He should have had new mattresses etc for the next tenant.

I'll give you €50 for the matress, €60 if you have any sheets that were left behind.

there are probably thousands of places with a history like yours now in the country. Some people in that profession often use rental properties for a short while until rumbled.

I'd buy a new mattress. They don't cost that much.

This is a good idea for a franchise, using relatively small holes to do dig yourself out of a huge one....

    Needs a name.....

How about Eddie Knockets, or The Mattress Reloaded?

I believe my house was once used for squatters and drug dealers. Also used to temporarily house the homeless.

    Well it's mine now. Mwahahahaha.

Get a new mattress and dock it off next months rent
If the landlord gives grief then say he was well aware of what he was letting the flat out for and lets check it out with the local garda station

He'll say nothing and you get a new mattress
