I am such an idiot really and sent my invites without registering them.It has come to my attention that a lot of them have not been delivered. They were sent a month ago by 1st class postage,I'm really frustrated as I didnt think there would be a problem with sending them unregistered, how wrong was I:(.I am now having to e-mail and call every1 I sent an invitation to and make sure they received it.We just Dont have the money to resend invitations again.I'm reallyfed up as I put a lot of work into them.Has Anyone experienced problems with the post in Ireland!!I sent these from the U.K.
I just dont understand If I send 3 Invitations to a village how can 1 be delivered and the other 2 not??:eek::eek:

Just thought I might save someone else from mking the same mistake as me!!It seems the sorting office might have dippers!!

I never had problems with post til I moved here to England and now nothing seems to be delivered properly :o . I'm guessing it was at this end. It's rare I receive a card in the post that doesn't have the corners pulled back and our post is simply left hanging inside the letterbox and we've a glass door - so people can clearly see it from the road... this has been done with bank statements and credit card statements and everything... I've complained so many times to royal mail and it got a bit better but still happens the odd time. So yeh, some of my invitations went missing too but I'm blaming this side!

You'll know who the posties are if they wear their uniforms, will you put them all at the same table, or mix them up? :P

Seriously though, sorry to hear that. Choosing and writing invitations can take a lot of time and money, and it's a crying shame that you were let down by the postal service.

To be fair, I rarely encounter problems with the post here. Weren't the Royal Mail on strike recently?

I posted mine from here (Glasgow) two weeks ago and afaik all of them arrived in both Ireland and the UK. I was extremely cautious about what stamps etc. I put on the invites. There was a piece on Watchdog a few months ago about different Royal Mail sorting offices having slightly different sized mail slots for envelopes, meaning that although all of the envelopes might be the same size they might be treated differently in different offices.

It's definately not this side as all the Invites have been received. The problem def lies in Ireland.Just so Pissed off really.I phoned Royal Mail and they said theres nothing they can do.I just hope that people will get back to me and let me know if they've received one or not.I guess it's down to Clintons for me to resend those invites again.I'm worrying that people wont believe I sent an Invitation in the first place,my relatives can be like that, well some of them anyways!!Thanks guys for taking the time to reply!

I can sympathise... posted mine a month ago from Baggot St post office in Dublin and about 25% went missing. Am raging. Had to contact everyone on the list to find out who got theirs.... family members obviously quite upset when they thought they weren't invited when others were.... Be careful.

A tip someone gave me (after the event) is to number the envelopes (both rsvp and invitation envelopes) - helpful as some of the invitations were opened and the blank rsvp with envelopes (they had our address on) were put into our letter box so at least that way you can rule out who didn't get one.

That's really unfortunate, sorry to hear that. I know a lot of work goes into invites. Hopefully your friends and family will understand. I have to say, I never thought about sending invites by registered post. Never occurred to me as any invites I received for others' weddings were just by standard post (they all came from abroad incidentally). It seems a lot more common than I would have thought though. Hope it works out for you OP :)

They were prob not sent because you sent them by "1st Class post". This is only for postage within the UK. You said you sent the invites from the UK to Ireland. In such a case you would have had to purchase stamps suitable for postage to Ireland. A 1st class stamp would not cover that.

If you put the return address on them, you could be lucky and get them back. If you didnt. Yes most likely you will have to send them again, but this time with a stamp for postage paid to EU country from the UK. (Not 1st class but more expensive). It is not the mail service fault, but most likely the fact you had the wrong postage stamp.

Quick look at royal mail's website....

A first class stamp costs 41p

Airmail to Ireland is from 60p and takes 3-5 working days.

    Registered post is £5.55.

Also, you'll pay more if the invitation weighs more than 20g or is outside certain dimensions (common for invites with bows or thick, folded card)

Sounds like you messed up a bit by not putting near enough postage on them...

When I posted mine for example they were 81p each plus of course airmail stickers

No I'd say the problem lies with you not putting the correct stamps on the envelopes.

Unfortunately, I'd agree with the others. I posted mine from London, and with the exception of one (wrong address given), ALL were received safely. Mine were sent to Ireland, UK, US, Barbados and Jamaica with absolutely no problems.

When you posted, did you tell the PO where they were going to?

    It's a shame though.

If in doubt, take the envelope to the counter (It's a pain, but better safe than sorry), get them to weigh it and tell you the EXACT cost to post. I did this, held up the queue for 15 minutes, but at least I got the correct postage rates.

No I def posted them with the correct postage, the stapms were 60p each and I informed them at the PO that they were going to Southern Ireland.
No I didnt tput a return Address on them because again i'm a numpty and didn't ever think there would be a problem.

We sent ours last weekend from UK..cost us £35 to send 15 uk ,15 Ireland and 5 international..no probs so far... Irish ones were delivered quicker than UK. Royal Mail's quality of service is a disgrace really. Very hit and miss.

But is 1st class not just for delivery in the uk

For delivery in ireland you needed to send by airmail not 1st class

See my post above, did you weigh and measure different envelopes to make sure? The cheapest that any of mine were was 88p (not 81p as above) and that was for an invite and RSVP.

I know this is a pain but on the upside you're very lucky that you're aware this happened. I covered a wedding once where some of the invites were burned in a post box! They couple didn't get many RSVP's and they assumed that no one wanted to come to the wedding! Their friends and family also assumed they weren't invited and obviously were mortally offended! It was a nightmare......I felt very sorry for couple. Maybe ring the local post office you might be surprised about the detailed information they can give you. Good luck

    Really!

Would you not ring around people if you didn't get the RSVP's back to check?

Anyway if everybody who is supposed to get one gets one then that is the main thing.
