Dont know it there is any truth in it but a guy that works in my local shop has a Desire HD and said the battery was sh1te but he said he bought a bigger battery in Poland and gets much longer out of it. Might be something to look into

Battery is always bad on smart phones for the first few days because you tend to use it more than normal. Wait till the wow factor wares off and it will increase. Also download widgets that allow you to turn off Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS. Also disable syncing of friendstream if you can because this kills the battery.

Wow - thats bad alright for a standard desire.
I was getting that on my HD until I calibrated the battery and got over the wow factor. Now getting 36 hours.
Install Wifi toggle that will turn off 3G when you are within your WiFi range and JuiceDefender that will turn off all data when phone is idle.

    JuiceDefender for free.

i got around 6-8 hours for the first few days.

Clear space for 4 apps on ur homescreen. Hold down ur finger on the screen until a menu pops up.
    select "Widgets"
selet "power control", and just select the default settings and click OK.

Turn everything off, except brightness. Set that to auto, or to the minimum u can see.

    sorted.

Normal for the first few days.

Control the features you have on and make sure you only keep on what you need. Disable GPS, WiFi, 3G or whatever other feature and only enable it if you need it.

That and the "wow factor" are the reasons you're only getting 8 hours battery life. I've managed 48 hours once on my Desire.

the htc desire battery is poor. i love the phone though. i went through 5 batterys in 36 hours on holidays (3 of them genuine batterys and 2 of them spurius).

my mate with a samsung galaxy s had one battery the whole time and charged it for an hour halfway and he had over half battery left.

i can get much longer out of it if i don't use it's various features ... but not using the features i may as well have bought a cheap nokia.

Download a task killer, I find it gives my battery a little extra life.

Also internet 3g, wifi, GPS etc will be hard on the battery too

    FYP.

Inform yourself on how they work and if they will provide benefits for your version of android. 2.2+ task killers are pointless, 2.1 is arguable, 1.6 perhaps they may at best do less bad than good.
