Numb feet

    Hi.

Over the past few months the soles of my feet have been going numb while running. I would only be maybe 2 or 3 km into a run and my feet start to go dead. I think it could be the runners as it all started around the same time as I bought a pair of asics runners. Before I used to use my astro turf runners that I have for football and I didn't have this problem while running then.

Also, this problem always happening while running on a road but if it's in any way a cross country surface it's not too bad.

A friend told me it might be due to the runners having a different shape to my feet? I was also thinking my feet wouldn't be used to these types of runners? I have always wore quite flat runners when walking or doing any sports. I only got the asics runners as I was packing in the soccer and running more.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Might be laced too tight? Try these lacing methods

I am having similar problems (along with blisters on the balls of my feet) since getting a new pair of asics 3020. Wiggling the toes of the 'in the air' foot usually makes is go away...quite unimpressed with the shoes though and even less impressed that I allowed myself to be talked into buying them in Elverys :o

    Tried that, didn't really change.

I have the same problem with new acis and found that method 3 on the lacing link fix for me.

Also try pulling laces tight but not knotting jog for 1 min and then tie without pulling laces.

i had the same issue as yourself and got it sorted in the last few days.

I would get a small bit of pain followed by numbness till my feet would go completely dead. If i wiggled my times i would get a small bit of relief but not enought to continue.

Eventually i would have to stop and with 1 minute my foot would be fine again.

Went to a physio and he said i had Plantar fasciitis. It effects different people in different ways. For me the muscles which go under your heel to each toe had become inflamed and notted. My calf muscles where too tight and it was what caused the problems. He said if i left it much longer i could have developed stress fractures in my legs. I ran the marathon last year and put the issues i had with my calf muscles down to the long runs (they were heavy, sore and solid to touch)

I'm now back running ok but i had to change my shoes and now where insoles all the time.

The best advice would be to go to a really good physio to get this checked out. When it happened i left it for a while to see if it would get better with rest but it didn't. each time i hit the 4 mile mark i would have to stop. After all my treatment i ran 10 miles last sunday with no hassle.

I used to get this all the time when I started running, especially when i was out for longer distances.
I haven't had it in a long time though. My guess is that your feet just get used to the pounding after a while.
