We owe a fortune and it makes the headlines here every day.

Does it matter as much to those we owe it to?

I wouldn't say Ireland features too highly on the newsreels of other nations save for the occasional blip when something "interesting" happens. The Irish have always had a reputation for being some what bucollic. The stero-type of the drunken paddy staggering about a mountain springs to mind and whilst most don't believe that to be the case, that's what people think of when they think of the Irish. Thus, our recent troubles would seem to suggest that after years of assing through things, we've finally made s**t of things in a huge way. Sadly, this isn't really untrue :(

Just watch Euronews to see how often we're covered. Not that much tbh.

That would make us an object of media interest for a while, certainly - but we simply don't owe anyone bar the ECB enough money for it to be of more than intellectual interest. It would be in the "EU affairs" section of the papers, with all the interest that that implies.

    cordially,
